agent of the Carnegie Company, In fact

ners," has recently chosen Cleveland as
his home.
The old saying that "truth Is stranger

proved than in tho life story of this
young man.
A man who, though not yet 30 years
of age, Is a millionaire.
A man whose eurly life has been so
strenuous that already he Is seeking to
regain his health, long ago shattered by
hard work.
It Is not often that the world Learn
of a young fellow only 28 years old,
who retires on an annual lucomo of
$35,000, the principal of which wan
largely made through his own efforts.
But such a man Is George Megrcw.
Mr. Megrew came to Cloveland a
short time ago from Pittsburg. He had
often visited in this city, aud decided
that here was the spot that would In
time seem the most like home to him,
for be It known that Mr. Megrcw is a
bachelor, and rather alone In the world,
as far as relatives go, although he has
hosts of friends, for ho Is a charming
man to meet, and makes friends every
where. After duo consideration ho decided to
purchase a home at tho corner of Euclid
and ItOHcdnlc avenues.

Mr. Megrew has always been n work
er nt that. His success, that has como
to him so early in life, Is not duo to

Of courso Mr. Megrow Is an Ohio
man. He was Dora in wooster, wayne
County, In tho year of '73.
When only 8 years of ago ho was
working as cash boy In n dry goods
storo In Denver. At the age of 11 ho
wan hustling for a living In Washing
ton, D. 0. In the capital ho sold papers
and did odd Jobs. One day ho mot a
man who, after buying a paper, stopped
a moment and spoke kindly to the lad.
The man was Congressman McKlnlcy.
Ho at ouco took a liking to young Mo-
grow and offered to secure for him a
pageship In tho house. This the boy re
fused, for ho wanted to go to school.
In 1888 Megrew's grandfather died
nnd tho lad went to Wooster to attend
tho funeral. Hero he met II. 0. Krick,
who, taking a decided liking to Megrow
Just us Mr. McKlnlcy did offered
him a clerkship In his oilico, which was
accepted. When Krlclc became chair
mail of tho Carnegie Company ho trans
ferred Megrew to tho olllces of that
concern an nsslstaut to tho cashier.
Then began Mr. Megrew's career. Ily
steady application to business ho won
tho respect of his superior and within
a short tlmo was promoted. Soon moro
promotions came to the hard-working
youth, until In 181)3 he was given an in
terest In the Carnegie Company ns a
Christmas gift, with the position of
purchasing agent
This position carried n salary of
$7,000 a year, and Mr. Megrew held It
until tho fall of 1000, at the time of tho
controversy regarding tho "Ironclad
agreement."
For several years his health had been
falling, and for tho past year Mr. Me
grew Iioji been seeuing to regain his
hoalth. Hut ho has not been "Idling
the time away" by any manner of
means. He U interested In real estnto
In Pittsburg, nnd his Interests In tho
big steel corporation require much of
his time.
Then, too, Mr. Megrow Is deeply Inter
ested In church work, and ho does a
great deal of work along charitable
lines, taking a particular Interest In the
nowbboys, for this young millionaire
never forgets the days of his boyhood
when ho sold papers on tho streets of
Washington.
In his beautiful new hone Mr. Mo
grew has many mementoes of famous
men of this country who are numbered
among his friends. In the hall ho hns
banging a drawing by Chartran of tho
late President McKlnley, made In Cuii
ton, besides an Inscribed picture of tho
artist himself, Mr. Megrew has also in
numerable leters of great value. One of
which Mr. Megrew Is particularly fond

ing him for bis work, and telling him of
his selection as one of the young part
ners la the great steel corporation.
