These are in linen color, but there arc
other batistes In dainty tints of blue,
pink and heliotrope. Swiss muslins In
bluo embroidered In wliito nru charming.
Figured and striped mulls nro new, nnd
embroidered ones arc highly wrought, as
Is suggested by the bod lee of the Inltlnl

Style in evening gowns are at a tund
mill, as reasonably enough they might
be because of their diversity and rich
ness. Laces and diaphanous fabrics have
been Important factors in them all win
ter, so the next change, which will bo
to summer alrlne, will not be so nearly
a risht-about as It sometimes is. Three
handsome gowns are sketched here as
representatives of styles that will last out
the cold weather. On the left Is a whlto
nun's veiling, cut princess and trimmed
with Irish point and Hudson Hay sable.
Next Is a pale blue crepu do chine trim
med with tinted cluny lace and "dashed"
with black velvet in knots and belt. Tho
last gown was white satin finished lav
lshly with brussels lace and witn medal
lions of cream lace and black velvet.
White holds as the distinctive color for
evening gowns, and flowers still trim
many costume-, the edelweiss being much
liked. This delicate little blossom Is
beautifully copied In white velvet and Is
arranged in natural looking clusters.
Itatiktdn roses made of white chlffou arc
another dainty decoration for evening
gowns. They form, with lace, little me
dallions all around the skirt of n white
satin gown. Applications of all kinds nro
used extensively, and spangled net and
fillet are often seen. The fi'chu effect
Is used n great deal for bodices.
Evening wraps, like evening gowns,
now furnish few disclosures of novelty,
but earlier In the winter they were ft
succession of wonders, so only now have
their standards become at nil settled.
Now, whether of silk, broadcloth, satin or
velvet, they are all loose nnd cither three
quarter or full length. Many nre trim
med with handsome lace and fur, while
others nre severely plain except for a fur
lined collar. Gros grain silk makes up
beautifully for cloaks and wraps, and
often Is the fabric of the showy gar
ment. The artist presents a cloak of
pink gros grain that was lined with white
Angora, this turning over in rovers. Irish
crochet appeared lu collar and outer re
vers. The gros grain put Into rucIi wraps
Is not as heavy as that imed years ago,
but has a beautiful luster and is very soft
lu texture. It does not rumple easily,
heneo Is much liked for service ot this
kind.
Eton and bolero suits constitute one ot
tho features of winter attire that nre to
hold over to spring. Velvet suits with
short ctons nre very swagger. Some nro
fur trimmed, while- others aro finished
with passementerie or braid nnd arc worn
with handsome fur neck piece and muff.
The fur-trimmed suit of these pictures
was tan broadcloth and black bear, black
velvet, gilt buttons mid whlto silk finish
ing the jacket. The companion suit was
ruby velvet, white passemeiiterlu dotted
with black velvet and white satin em
broidered id silver. Light cloths In pastel
and biscuit tints aro put Into many etoti
suits, and In velvets, blues, browns,
greens and a deep, rich red aro worn,
Tho bodices worn may bo as elaborate or
plain as one chooses. Whlto pongeo is
recommended as n fashlouablo material
for these get-tips. White corduroy and
velvet pressed Into narrow stripes Is an
other material much worn just now, A
soft, satiny taffeta Is also thus used and
