velvet for trimming and piping. Theau
plaids as well as plaid silks aro being
used a good deal, too, for the shirt waists
of tailor suits. lllack velvet was the ma
terial of tho next pictured dress. Per
sian passementerie was its trimming. The
mating is a frequent nnd haudsome one,
Long and three-quarter coats still hold,
and semi-fitting ones are the more popu
lar. Loose fitting coats with deep caps
and draped fronts, Usually fur trimmed,

are worn now and then. Cloth nnd vel
vet are the materials, although n few nre
seen of heavy black satin, trimmed with
fur or fnncy passementerie. Sketched
here Is n tan melton coat trimmed with

ally worn nor liked by many.
Blnck nnd white continue to be a much
favored combination for afternoon and
evening. For the latter, moussellne do
sole makes nn excellent foundation. An

medallions. These were outlined nnd
slightly sprinkled with silver sequins.
For afternoon, white broadcloth, cordu
roy nnd panne velvet, with black lace or
velvet, makes very hnndsomc costumes.
A white cloth gown finished with stitched
bonds of blnck cloth Is shown nt tho left
in the next picture, Mack cloth and
velvet gowns elaborately trimmed with
white lace nnd sliver sequins nro very
dressy. The next pictured dress wns
blnck cloth trimmed with black velvet
aud blnck and white lnce.

The princess cut, by tho way, is much
in favor for long-trained gowns, lie

kept in place by two clastic drawing

Of all transparent fabrics, silk mull
is not only stylish for evening gowns, but
Is moro durable than many of the per
ishable stuffs of which the market is full.
These, weaves ore beautiful when trim
med with different colored ribbons. Hatln
ribbon Is a very pretty finish when com
bined with flowers. Shoulder straps form
a special feature, and ure made of rib
bons, feathers, (lowers und sometimes
bunds of oriental embroidery.
