Latest ndviees from Dawson wero received today on tho steamer Cottngo City by Charles Herrymnn, who left tho Klon dike capital In tho latter part of Do comber. Derrymnn says there is a stnmpedo on from Dawson to Ilendor son creek, near Stewart river, tho scono of the latest gold strike. Gold wns known to exist on this creek somo timo ago, nnd many claims were lo cated, but later abandoned. Hut ro cent work has shown that tho creok in rich, nnd it is yielding $1.80 to tho pan nnd claims cannot be purchased short of fabulous prices. Herrymnn reports that several thousand men nro on tho creek. Ho says thu gold iwlt extends a distance of 10 miles, nnd owners of claims refttsu to consider propositions to purchase even interests in any of their holdings. 'Preparatory work has been com menced on one of the largest and long est mining tunnels in tho world near Juneau, Alaska. Thu tunnel will bit about 8,000 feet long, and will bo started on the bench south of Juneau and run' into it mountain to tap a large number of claims in thu Silver Dow basin, formerly owned by Charlos D. Lane, who sold them to thu Alaska Ex ploration Company. Thu Treadwell miuu claims will be tapped by un up raise of about 800 feet. A largo mill will be built on thu beach where It can bo operated thu year round. It is ex pected that new veins will bo tapped in running thu tunnel, as tho moun tain through which it is to bo driven is almost solid quartz.
