"William Pollman and a number of other Baker City men have filed on the waters of Hock creek, and havo announced their Intention to estab lish a power system for tho gonora tlon and transmission of electric pow er to this city. It will be nocossary to construct a ditch about throo miles long, to convoy the water to tho alto of the power-house, where a fall of several hundred foot can bo obtained. From tho powor-houso, which will bo locate'd soveral miles from tho city, the eloctrlc curront will bo transmit ted by means of coppor wire to this city to run mills and factorlos and light the city. Will Handle Anything Afloat The first section of tho Moran Brothers Company's floating drydock has been launched at the company's yurds at Seattle. The new structuro is 200 feet in length and 80 feet in width, with tow ers 30 foot high above tho pontoon, which Is 12 feet deep. It has a float ing capacity of 3,000 tons and Its own weight Is 2,000 tons. In its construc tion thero was used 1,500,000 feet of lumber and 160 tons of Iron. Centrif ugal pumps, operatod by eloctrlc mo tors, will bo used to empty tho wator compartments by which tho dock Is to bo lowored or raised In tho wator, together with any vessol which may bo plkced In it. 0 Work will immediately bo bogun on tho second section of tho dock, anu when It Is completed tho two will be used together, making a dock 400 foot in longth and largo enough to raUo the largest vessel afloat In tho Pacific ocean, while the addition of tho third section, which Is In contemplation, will enable the company to handle and repair the largest vessels ever under construction anywhero in' tho world. Tht Guernsey Dots Things. Tho big whaleback steamship Guernsey, which wus tho first vessel that ever carried over 3,400,000 feet of lumber out of Portland or any other Pacific coast port, left Manila Octobor 15 for Portland, under cnar ter to load lumber and piles for tho Orient. Unlike tho most of tho lumber-carriers which como across the Pacific in this trade, the Guernsey is not coming in ballast. Sho is report ed to have on board 1500 tons of hemp for Portland and San Francisco. The consignment for tho Bay City will be landed in this city and sent to its destination by rail. Tho Guernsey has been in tho service of the Pacific Export Lumber Company for nearly two years, and on her last trip across the Pacific made herself famous in marine annals by having a broken shaft repaired and a now propeller snipped in mid ocean. Tho railway project from Boise to tho Bolso basin is being put on a firm foundation, A surveying party la in tho field under the mipervlslon of tho chlof englnoor of the now company, D. O. Stevenson. It 1b now Investigating tho feasibil ity of a railway lino in the More creek canyon from tho mouth of More creek to the mouth of Grimes crook, a dlstanco of about 21 miles. This Is a vory bad piece of country, broken, rocky and precipitous. If tho railway is feasible hero, it will bo easy the roBt of tho way. Tho railway la projected chiefly bo oauso of tho great timber belt tra versing a largo portion of Boise county, which tho lino would tap. Tho mines of Bolso basin, Idaho City, Placervlllo, Quartzburg, Centorvlllo, Bannock, Grimes Pass and Pioneer vlllo would add largely to tho bustnoss of tho corporation, but It Is entirely upon their timber that tho business mon at the head of tho project figure for sufficient revenue to justify the line. McCroskoy, who owns and cultivates 1400 acres of land near Gar field, Wash., has finished threshing his whoat and finds that bo has a total of 36,000 bushels of wheat for this seasons crop. Mr. McCroskey s crop avoraged 35 bushols to the aero. Ho had about 1000 acres of wheat, the remalndor of his land being In oats or other crops. Ho has figured all expensos of tho crop Just harvested and finds that bis whoat cost him an avorago of 23 cents por bushel placed In tho warehouse Ho sold 15,000 bushels before tho beginning of tho harvost for 45 cents por bushol. Whoat Is now worth 40 cents per bushel, and If It wero all sold at tho present prices Mr. McCroskoy would net 17 cents per bushel, or 15.95 per acre from this single crop But adding tho amount sold at 45 cents por bushel makes the total aver age, if tho romalndor were sold at presont pricos, su.by per acre net profit. Multiplying this by 100 gives a total not profit on this crop of wheat of IC870. The Western Union Telegraph Com pany will soon begin the construction of a new line between Boise, Idaho, and Pendleton Or. Tho now wlro will doublo the capacity of tho lino be tween the places namod. From Pen dleton west there aro several wireB. It Is the Intention to put up another wlro between Ogden, Utah, and Boise, and when that is up most of tho through business from tho East to Portland will como over this new wlro Instead of going by the way of San Francisco.
