ENTERTAINING AS BEING AS IMPORTANT RECEIVED. Imagination May Hlot la Wide Choice of Design, Cat, Material and Trim jnlna Many of the New Notions Are Very Klaborate. New York corrciporidcucot IGHTLY consld ered, home dresses ore the most Im portant feature of a woman's wurd robe Tho fashion able worunn real izes that entertain ing Is us Important n matter as being received, nnd her unfashionable sis ter, if she Is wise, knows that to be always suitably nnd prettily dress ed at home Is to please her dearest world. The homo dress can bo mod eled exactly ac cording to the wearer's tnste. Sho who likes simplicity may be a lovely pic ture of It in her house, while the 11 u fiery dame may fluff to her heart's content. NEW NOTIONS silks, quntnt challlcs, crepes and slk and linen goods. A pale blue crepe de chine was employed in the gown sketched for this Initial picture, which was one of simple sort that still count as dressy. Its wnllor collar was white nainsook em broidery edged with a nainsook ruffle, double ruflles of nainsook finishing the sleeves. This fashion of throat free and arms bare from the elbow adapts Itself charmingly to the needs of tho house gown, nnd the train, always suitable In the house, Is just uow fashionable, be sides. Other fancies that arc applied to the simpler house dresses arc the Moused waist or loose front, and all princess nnd wattcau effects. With so wide a choice It Is quite possible to select something as easy as a wrapper, graceful and slm MOHE FOUMAL pie, ye( with the necessary suggestion of dressiness that differentiates the bouse and morning gown from the wrapper. Empire front and princess back is one charming combination, shown here by the artist. As sketched it was pale pink lawn trimmed with white needlework and white lace, but uuy of the summery ma-, terials that are employed in house dresses would make up nicely in similar manner. Pink satin ribbou bound it above the bust line, and afforded a quaint finish worth remembering, Another model shown here was chosen for illustration to point the license that prevails. It Is across the picture from the one just described, nud bad a princess front with an ingenious modification of the watteau back. It was white India silk trimmed freely with tucking, white lace Insertion and lace ruliles. Its adaptation of the watteau back could be transferred to a far elaborate gown. wSllflll Jut Ml "Iff 999 II1 MX WlmaBSk mil PORTIiA3STD. OBEGON". In tie finish of the neck there Is quits as much room for the expression of per sonal taste as In other details. The neck may be left bare In Saint Cecilia fyhlon, the gown may be cut half low, or a high collar elaborately built up about the enrs and under the hair at the back mny com fort the woman who thinks the bare neck unbecoming to her. The half bnre neck is accomplished with nil sorts of pretty applications of the fichu. A dainty one is shown in the middle one of these three gowns, which was sketched In white mus lin figured with lavender. Embroidered muslin and blnck velvet trimmed it. House dresses nre either trained or short. The trained ones are always the more poetic nnd elaborate, but there nre the dnintiest nffnlrs In crisp lawns nnd calicoes, the latter Intended for the morn ing hours when household affairs must have attention. For this purpose, too, arc wonderful aprons, some ot which cover almost the whole dress. While Informal house gowns mny show arms bare to above the elbow, the after noon dtcss Is more likely to have long or elbow sleeves. The double sleeve li still populnr, but many double sleeve effects are accomplished by trimming and by management of p'eutlng nnd pulling. In tho Inst of these three pictures nre two of the dresses graded as for informal home receiving. The first wnH In t plaid ed silk nnd wool that showed red, white and yellow. Linen embroidery gave Its trimmings. Its bodice was n pretty mod ification of the flat model, being changed enough to hang rather stillly over n deep belt of dark red velvet without obliterat ing the figure. It was a very successful compromise between an ungraceful new style and a more pleasing old one. The HOUSE DRESSES. other home dress of this group was old rose cashmere sprinkled with pale ptuk rosebuds. Fine tucking, Ivor' white lace andiblack velvet were its trimmings. It sleeUs were of outright newness, AJstyle is coming In for evening bod lecsuhat will result In a striking show of shoulders. The models advanced suggest In some degree the off-shoulder fashions that! were in not long ago, yet do not re semble the bygone style very closely. The outlines taken urc Indicated by the even Ing gown shown herewith, though in some cases there Is n slight dip in front nnd n deeper one at the back. Scarfing for the top of the cut-out Is usual, and when wisely applied can be made highly ornamental ThU pictured gown was Ivory white satin, sleeves, panels and scarfing being of tho goods delicately em NOVELTIES. broidered with silver, Its long sleevet were un innovation, out that seems nurd ly likely to be followed generally. Em broidery promises to be the donilnanr trimming for such nttlre, though lute will be employed with customary free dom. Lace was used ilberully In einhcl Hahlng the other evening gown shown here, Which also was of white satin. A pleated front panel nud embroidery In gold were other details. Oold uud silver, with preference for the former, are nt a high premium for embroidering purposes. Copyright. 1000. British Houses of I'urllarnent.
