While the trans-Atlantic flyers are

the eastern nnd weBterii constH of tli
United Btnti'H are discussing with In

by the wny, are especially Interesting

who commands the nnutlcnl freak, Isj
not by any means proud of her. Not
ono can bo found to nssumo responsi

schooner's latest cruise, tho Idea Is not '
destined to be tnkcu up by owners gen-j
orally. Tho Americana was lfiO days
coming from Calcta Uuena, and at one
time CO per cent reinsurance was paid
on her. Bhu put Into Honolulu, how
ever, nnd was then fifty-one days com

This Is the record slow passage from
the nitrate ports to San Francisco. Tho
Americana carries a Jib topsail, nn In
ward and outward Jib, a foro gaff top
ball, a foro and aft foresail, a square
foresail, a main topgallant sail, main
stopsall and fore and aft mainsail, ml::
Ken and gaff tnpsnll and spanker nnd
gaff topsail. In spite of nil this spread
of canvas the best tho Americana could
l do was about 100 knots a day. Situ was
very foul, however, having been for a
long time lu tho water without being
drydocked. '
Tho inarlno novelty which Is attract

doubtless do better In tho way of speed
than tho nondescript which Is exciting
wonder In San Francisco. Tho former

BODY OF EDWARD VI. IS FOUND.
Hcttialn. of Kngtaml' Mlnalnfc Ktna
Are I) ii-r ti at Windsor.
Tho body of Kdwnrd VI., the boj
King of Knglautl, who reigned from
1547 to 1553, hits, It Is bulluved, beco
found at Windsor, Cuglund.
It recalls the Bluebeard King Hen
ry VIII. and his six wives; the pathetic
boy Hlng, his sou; tho unhappy Lady
Jane Grey; tho boy King's sisters.
"Bloody Mary" and tho great Eliza
beth, and all the romances and trage
dies Of that great Tudor period, when
men staked their lives on their religion
nud their polities nud tho Enydsh na
tion was being created.
The' resting plnce of every King, from
the Norman conquest down to Queen
Vlctorla'a predecessor, Is known and
suitably marked, with the solitary ex
ception of Edward VI.
This King alone has no tomb. In the
great Abbey of Westminster, where hit
grandfather, Henry VII., first of the
Tudors, built a beautiful chnpcl, there
Is no stone to his memory, Neither ti
there nt ltoyal Windsor, where his ter
rible father was burled. In no building
of tho Church of England, which ha
helped so greatly to'estubllsh, Is there
a memorial to poor Edward.
There aro authentic accounts of tho
arrangements for his funeral, but when
It comes to tho matter of burial there
Is no precise record. Tho fact that n
King of Englnnd lies dead without a
monumental tomb to his memory Is as
tounding. Is this mystery to bo cleared away
after 800 years and more? It seems
probable. An ancient coffin has been
unearthed In ltoyal Windsor, nud the
body It contains Is declared by high
archeologlcal authority to bo that of
King Edward VI.
Workmen woro mnking tho founda
tions for a now station on the Great
Western Knllroad at Windsor. Re
cently they were excavating Thames
street near tho great castle which has
been tho chief residence of tho .sover
eigns of England for 800 years. Near
est to tho place where tho men wero nt
work Is thu Curfew tower of the castlo,
and not far away aro the Garter tower,
the, Salisbury tower, and Henry VIII.'s
gateway.
At a spot about 100 yards from the
Curfew tower, fourteen feet below the
street level nod four feet In tho chalk,
their pickaxes struck something thnt
gavo a hollow sound. In a few min
utes they unearthed a great wooden
collln.
Tho excitement In quiet old Windsor
wns great. The police formed a cordon
about thu trench and thu collln was
placed ou a wagon and driven to tho
Windsor cemetery mortuary- There a
careful examination wns made by Dr.
Hulbert In tho presence of Mr. F. Lay
ton, chairman of tho Windsor burial
bonrd, nud other persons of local Im
portance. It was found that thon
were really thrco colllns, ono outside
tho other. Tho outer one, of ouk, was
much decayed. It broke and crumbled
nt the touch, but the bronzo handles
and copper nails nnd fastenings were
Intnet, though corroded. There wns no
slgu of any name ou any of the cof
fins. Fitting closely Inside the outer case
wns a beautiful leaden collln, smooth
as tho top of a dining-room table. This
Inclosed a wooden shell In which the
body was actually found, hidden from
view by a quautlty of flno sawdust. Tho
corpse wns wrapped lu a silken em
broidered shroud of cxqulslto texture,
and did uot crumblQ to dust when ex
posed to the air, showing thnt tho body
had been embalmed In a very careful
manner. About "the nock was a heavy
gold chain. From this apparently a
locket or -pendant had been removed,
which might hnvo furnished a clew to
the Identity of tho corpse.
Tho colllns nnd everything connect
ed with them wero of tho tlnest quality.
Tho motal handles twere beautifully
wrought. The dead man bad clearly
been of rank nud wealth. This fact
mado tho absenco of any Inscription on
tho collln all tho more mysterious.
Thoso who saw tho body say that It
was that of a boy or a frail man. It
wns gracefully formed. Tho face was
Intelligent. The hands aud feot wero
remarkably small nnd delicate. The
hair was fair and long. Thcro wns no
beard on Up or chin. This descrlptlpn
corresponds very closely with that of
tho body of tho boy King Edwnrd VI.
as given by chroniclers or ms time.
Tho skin of tho corpse had assumed a
dark brown color. At tho back of the
neclc there was a deep dent. Whether
this hnd been mado after death or
whether It was a mark of vlolenco re
ceived In llfo Is In dispute. Tho body
was burled under nn auclent street, and
could not have been placed there leu
than 300 years ago.
Tennyson's Three Queen.
On ouo occasion Tennyson was asked
by tho present Hlshop of Illpon wheth
er the thrco Queens who accompanied
King Arthur on his last voyngo repre
sented Faith, Hope aud Charity. Tho
poet's reply gives nu Indication of his
Idea of tho spirit in which poetry
should bo rend. "They mean that and
they do uot. They aro three of the no
blest of women. They nro also those
three graces, but they are much more.
I hato to be tied down to say, This
means that,' because the thought wlrli
In the Image Is much more than an
ono Interpretation."
