Volunteers are filling clients requests similar to a drive-in restaurant. Clients will drive in, be assigned a number and asked about food allergies and preferences. They will be given pre-filled bags of staples, based on family size, plus the usual dairy items, meats that are available. Volunteers will fill orders and return to the car. “This transition went well, with 80 adults and 42 children served on our first days. Cli- ents were understanding of changes we made to protect them, our staff and volun- teers,” Durkan said. Cascade Locks is operating on drive-through, and in Park- dale, orders will be taken at door of the site, Parkdale Com- munity Church. The school pantry at Mid-Valley is closed. Last week, the Hood River Board of County Commission- ers adopted an emergency dec- laration for the coronavirus emergency response. Hood River City Council also adopted an emergency declaration for the COVID-19 emergency re- sponse on March 19. Hood River County activat- ed the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) last week to sup- port all of our local partner agencies, and community, amidst the current public health emergency. The local, proactive corona- virus emergency response con- tinues in Hood River County, with our cities, county, health, law enforcement, fire and EMS, social service agencies, pub- lic information officers and community partners working together to keep our commu- nity safe, share resources, and plan for contingencies. We have standing call in meetings to assess and adapt to changing conditions that affect our community and its agencies. This intensive, ongoing emer- gency management/disaster re- sponse planning underway in the EOC helps us with our partners to stay abreast of changes, respond as needed and stay flexible to changes that may occur over time for our community, support- ing Hood River County Public Health, the lead response agency on COVID-19. The Hood River County EOC works directly with State OEM (Oregon Office of Emergency Management) and OHA (Oregon Health Authority) to obtain addi- tional needed resources such as PPE (Personal Protective Equip- ment) to support the healthcare community. Statewide there is a shortage of PPE.
