‘R HYTHM’ A T CCA
For 2020 at Columbia Center for the Arts, artists in each exhibition
are given a one-word prompt to serve as a challenge. In February,
the word is rhythm. ”Rhythm can be auditory, but also visual.
It moves us — drawing the eye around a composition and our
bodies around a room,” said Executive Director Leith Gaines. The
gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The CCA Lobby hosts a show of Hood River High School Gold Key
award winners. Students receiving awards were celebrated on
First Friday, Feb. 7. Shown is an updated “Rhythm” poster image
provided by CCA, featuring work by Stephen Kekule.
Memory Café
challenge grant
on now
Aging in the Gorge Alliance
has issued a challenge grant
to support The Hood River
County History Museum’s
new Memory Café. During
the months of February and
March, donations made to the
program will be matched 1:1,
up to the total of $1,500.
A Memory Café is a mem-
ory stimulation program for
people with dementia. Muse-
um objects, photos and music
are used to spark memories
for people experiencing de-
mentia. Trained volunteers
take artifacts from the collec-
tion to people with dementia,
presenting and passing around
the objects to share.
The program is managed by
the museum’s Jesuit Northwest
AmeriCorps member Addi-
son Arnold. Donations can
be made to the Hood River
County Heritage Council, PO
Box 781, Hood River, OR 97031
or brought to The History Mu-
seum at 300 E. Port Marina
Drive. Write “dementia pro-
gram” on your check. Credit
card payment can be made at
the Museum or by calling 541-
386-6772.
