The Griffin House presents an original theatrical Broadway-blues
performance by The Blues Cabaret, featuring Northwest artists
Dave Fleschner, Earl Thomas, Billy Mixer, and Jimmy Wilcox on
Sunday, June 21. Critics say, “The Blues Cabaret is a dynamic
new song cycle about a wistful musician who finally walks the
road not taken – years too late. It’s a heart-rending, knee-slap-
ping ride through love lost, gained and squandered, told through
sixteen-plus songs, four soulful singers and one swinging band.”
Doors open at 6 p.m.; show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets available at
Eventbrite.com; search for "Blues Cabaret." Early-Bird $5 dis-
count for tickets purchased before Monday, June 15 (code is Fa-
thersDay); a parking pass must be purchased for parking on the
adjacent property. A portion of the proceeds benefits FISH.

Students presented artwork and poetry on the evening of June 2 in
the “Many Faces of Poetry” art show and poetry slam at A Kidz
Dental Zone in Hood River, where the wall bears the painted in-
scription by Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist.” Hood River
Middle School eighth grader Jamie Robinson reads her original
poem on school shootings, as friends and family listen. Also shown
is Olivia Schaefer’s self-portrait and description. Students read their
poems from three stages, including a black light room — aka the
dental office waiting room. About 100 students attended, and 25
read poems they had written and memorized, as well as checked
out each other’s’ art work. Sales of the art will go the art and liter-
