Sunset Ma g azine has
named Hood River Best Ad-
venture Town in its 2015 trav-
el awards.
The designation appears
in the June issue of the na-
tional publication.
T he award entry was
spearheaded by the Hood
River County Chamber of
Commerce as part of its mis-
sion to promote the econom-
ic prosperity and livability of
Hood River County, accord-
ing to Mike Glover, Chamber
director.
“We’re thrilled that Sunset
Travel Awards has recog-
nized Hood River as the best
adventure town in the West,”
Glover said. “Not only do we
have this amazing natural
setting with tons of outdoor
opportunities, be we also
have great specialty stores,
rentals and lessons to sup-
port visiting adventurers.
Our outstanding breweries,
restaurants, shops and ac-
commodations, plus welcom-
ing small-town ambiance,
seal the deal for visitors of
all kinds.”
Chosen by a panel of noted
travel experts over numer-
ous other entries from 13
Western states and British
Columbia, Hood River stood
out as a five-star destination
for adventure seekers.
“The scenic setting, in the
shadow of snow-capped Mt.
Hood and the meeting of the
Columbia and Hood Rivers,
resonated with our judges, as
did the startling breadth of
experiences possible in this
Oregon town – hiking, bik-
ing, fishing, rafting, skiing,
paddle-boarding, and the

Sunset’s article was its
second about Hood River in
three months. The April edi-
tion profiled Hood River and
the Fruit Loop as a destina-
tion, describing the city as
“surrounded by pear, apple
and peach orchards” and the
Fruit Loop as “a 35-mile
stretch of road dotted with
fruit stands and lavender
farms”. It added that, “In
May this Columbia gorge
town hits its stride: the river
begins to warm, breweries
open their patios, and the
new waterfront park fills
with picnickers.”

The mission of Outdoor Adventures with Military He-
roes (OAMH) is to provide an opportunity to introduce
wounded combat veterans to the outdoors. Over the
past two years the organization made up largely of
local fire and law enforcement personnel provided
equipment and supplies, along with help from the
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, local land
owners and others the necessary recourses to pro-
vide outdoor hunting, camping and fishing experiences to wounded veterans from The Gorge.
Tonkin Subaru is pleased to support the efforts of these dedicated community volunteers.
