I CARRIED A WATERMELON:
A Dirty Dancing Story by TriptheDark
Dance Company debuts April 17
Columbia Center for the
Ar ts is proud to host
TriptheDark for their fifth
season as a dance company
invites you into the world of
Patrick Swayze's hips. The
show is Friday, April 17, at 8
p.m.
Keeping to their tradition
of bringing entertaining
dance performances to Port-
land, "I Carried A Watermel-
on: A Dirty Dancing Story" is
equal parts homage and ir-
reverence: everything you al-
ways loved about Dirty Danc-
ing, and everything you did-
n't know it was missing.
Hood River gets a rare oppor-
tunity to see this Portland
Based Company locally.
Tragedy and social strata
befall Johnny and his crew,
and he finds himself in need
of a new dance partner. "I
Car ried A Water melon"
doesn't just retell your fa-
vorite eighties movie master-
piece, it takes your dusty old
VHS cassette, throws in
some glitter, spandex,
TriptheDark's le gendary
humor and accessibility and
presents it for you as fresh
and relevant as ever before.
So be there or be square. And
squares have corners. And
nobody, but nobody, puts
baby in the corner. Doors
open at 7:15 with the show at
8 p.m. Tickets ($18 adults/$15
students and seniors/$10
children under 12) are avail-
able
at
www.tripthedark.com. Co-
lumbia Center for the Arts is
located at 215 Cascade Ave. in
downtown Hood River.
Classical music lovers of
the Mid-Columbia will have
an opportunity to experience
the fifth biennial Organ
Crawl, a series of five perfor-
mances on the historic pipe
organs of The Dalles on Sun-
day, April 19, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The event was initiated by
the late Robert Carsner in
2007, and friends who sup-
ported him in the first four
Crawls determined to contin-
ue the tradition in Carsner’s
memory after his death in
planned for the Art Center
theater during the month of
the show.
Local musician Jim Drake
came up with the idea for the
show.
"The Gorge has always had
a unique music culture, and
combining instrument mak-
ers and artists into a show
seems like a natural fit. I
want the show to demon-
strate how the process of
making a musical instru-
ment can be translated into
art that can be seen and
heard," Drake said.

invitational art show, contact
Sarah Bur r Ar nold at
