Colorful Dreams:
Stump One displays
artwork at the library
Visit the Hood River Li-
brary during the month of
March to view the art dis-
play “Dream Colorfully,” a
collection inspired by
color and the ability to
dream, by artist Stump
One.
This display is free and
open to the public in the
downstairs Jeanne Marie
Gaulke Room for viewing
during regular library
hours. Stump One’s wife
Megan Winn grew up in
Hood River and still has
family living here, and is
friends with Yeli Boots, the
Children’s Library assis-
tant.
Stump One has two
hometowns, spending
most of his early life in
Monterey, Calif., and his
adolescence and early
adult years in Fresno,
Calif. The two places have
provided Stump with the
inspiration for most of his
artwork. While living in
Monterey, Stump had
many opportunities to
visit the Monterey Bay
Aquarium where he was
fascinated with the vi-
brant colors and organic
shapes the ocean provided.
Back then, Stump,
known as George Winn,
won an art contest and has
his artwork displayed to
the public for the first
time.
Monterey is vibrant,
lush and on the ocean.
Fresno is in the central
part of California that is
hot, dry and the majority
of the vegetation comes
from the abundance of
agricultural fields sur-
rounding the city. It was in
Fresno where Stump
began skateboard and was
first introduced to urban
art. Stump uses the juxta-
position of his two home-
towns as an inspiration for
his style, combing the vi-
brant colors of sea life in
Monterey, the precise lines
of the agriculture farms
with their perfectly plant-
ed crops, and the freedom
of urban art.
