‘Spiritual Mothering’
author Rene Knight-
Weiler gives reading
at the library Feb. 21
Local author Rene Knight-Weiler will
read from her book “Spiritual Mother-
ing: Toward an Ever Aadvancing Civi-
lization” at the Hood River Library on
Saturday, at 2 p.m.
The book Spiritual Mothering is the
fruit of an endeavor begun a generation
ago when Knight-Weiler had young chil-
dren and embarked on creating and edit-
ing a quarterly international magazine
called “Spiritual Mothering Journal.”
The essays from that widely acclaimed
publication have been gathered together
to form this book.
Its general message is to affirm that
children are spiritual beings, that par-
ents have a noble task and a lofty sta-
tion, and that we can indeed raise up a
new humanity capable of creating a
peaceful and harmonious world. Its
original and continued purpose is to
recognize and promote the unique role
of parenting in the advancement of
civilization and to offer support and en-
couragement for parents engaged in
this great process. Its contributors are
parents from around the world, some
acclaimed authors, but most come from
the anonymous trenches of family life.
What all these authors have in common
is a love of children, a love of writing,
and a wealth of ability in both areas.
The wisdom they offer is not limited to
one generation; it is timeless, just like
parenthood itself.
Written by individuals with their
uniquely personal thoughts, experiences
and interactions with the spiritual guid-
ance provided by the Bahá’í writings, all
the essays provide a channel for sharing

gle to align our family lives with
Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings that readers can-
not help but find comfort in them.
