G o r g e h o m e ow n e r s i n
Klickitat, Skamania, Wasco
and Hood River counties.
GO! Solar is a communi-
ty “solariz e” initiative
aimed at helping Columbia
River Gorge homeowners
overcome the barriers asso-
ciated with investing in
solar power. Local contrac-
t o r s a n d s u p p l i e r s a re
working together to offer a
simplified process and un-
beatable prices. In addition
to state, federal and local
incentives, GO! Solar can
reduce total project cost by
up to 20 percent. The catch:
Homeowners have to sign
up for the program no later
than March 30, 2015 to
guarantee the bulk dis-
counts.
“Going solar pays off in
a number of ways,” said
Amanda Lawrence, Gorge
Owned Membership and
Program Director. “It re-
duces your monthly utility
bills, increases your home
value, reduces your depen-
dence on fossil fuel and, if
done through GO! Solar,
supports the local econo-
my.”
At Feb. 3 kickoff, learn
about financial incentives
for solar, meet the local
contractors delivering the
program and have your
questions about solar an-
swered by regional experts.
Participants can also enjoy
light appetizers and beer
courtesy of Full Sail.
Gorge Owned is planning
additional events in Klicki-
tat and Wasco Counties in
February. Details will be
announced at gorge-
owned.org.

S TATE S TREET R ESTROOM
Peterson Brothers Concrete crew pours the shell for the new public restroom facility at State and Third streets, part of the Urban Renewal Project that started in September 2013. The view at left, taken Feb-
ruary 2014, is from the same vantage point, the County Courthouse driveway, looking north down Third street. The restroom and plaza are the last major piece of the $5.4 million project, which has seen new
streets, sidewalks, underground utilities, and amenities including benches, drinking fountains, and light poles. Chuck Peterson of Peterson Brothers said that his crew used mallets to tap the plywood frame,
in order to aid settling of the concrete. Normally, long devices known as “stingers” are inserted into the still-liquid concrete to help settle it, but this was not possible because of an interior insulation layer,
according to Peterson. The frame is due to come off by mid-week, and then Crestline Construction can install the roof and interior plumbing, tile, lighting, and more. Peterson Brothers put down a brushed
concrete surface inside, and Schuepbach Construction will do the plaza surrounding the restroom. The facility will also hold public art, bike racks, and information kiosks.
