It was granted to Mrs. Sarah Riser, Eighth and Pine streets. Mrs. Riser's husband is Incapacitated on account of paralysis and she support three children. One is old enough to work but the other two are entirely de pendent. Under the law nhe was grunted 110 month for th first child and $7.60 for the second. Cram, at Meredith Or chard. Miss Frances Bragg left the last of the week for Seattle to attend the commencement of the Univesrity of Washington. Miss. Margaret Hendle of Spokane came Saturday to be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Andrews and Mrs. Ham for a few days. Professor Wilson of the department of entomology at the O. A. ('., came to Hood River Friday to spend a few days at the experiment station. John Koberg's ranch was flooded by the high water the last of the week and several acres of asparagus, let tuce and other garden truck ua9 bad ly damaged. The picturesque Neil Creek Canyon road is now said to be in excellent condition for automobile and other travel and gives an excellent oppor tunity for an attractive drive. On account of the heat, the dance given by the Assembly Club Friday evening was not largely attended, but it was most enjoyable. Harmon's orchestra of five pieces furnished the music. Miss Ethel Vanderlin. of Pittsburg. Pa., who has been spending the past three months visiting Miss Molly Pif er, left Thursday and was married on Saturday to L. K. Laney of Santa Maria, Cal., where they will make their home. The rnarrhal signal ed the conductor to stop the train, placed the surprised passenger under arrest and put him in jail over night. Friday morning he was taken before Judge Howe and sentence suspended on condition that he take the first train out of town. He did so with a respectful adieu to the marshal. They expect to be back Friday. The San Souci Club on Thursday very pleasantly entertained their ex members at a lawn party given at the home of Mrs. F. H. Button. There were about 5K present. Tables were set on the lawn and a delicious two course luncheon was served. Two handsome bouquets of peonas were displayed last week in Mr. Lar away's show window and in the fiutler Banking Company. They showed a pleasing Variety and a strik ing perfection of bloom. They were from plants grown by C. D. Thomp son. Dr. Scobee, Dr. Pineo and Dr. Jen kins left Monday for Portland to at tend the annual convention of the Statp Dental Association. Mrs. Pin eo, Mrs. W. F. Iaraway and Mrs. I.iseo also went to the Rose City to attend the Grand Iodge of the East ern Star. August Paasch left the last of the week for New York and will sail n.m there to Bremen, Germany, where he will secure a market for his apples. Mr. Paasch Is one of the largest growers on the East Side and has made several trips abroad, find ing a profitable market In Germany. He plns to visit ail the principal cities of that country while abroad thiB summer. John Schetky, who has been at tending school in Vancouver, B. C, came last week to spend the sum mer at. his home here. He was ac companied by a schoolmate, Garden Gamwell. Bell made a trip last week to Government Mineral Springs 20 miles south of Carson, Wash.
