Frank Skinner and family have mov ed on their ranch for the busy sprin and summer months. They spent the winter in town. During the past week, George Gladen has sold portions of his land near the blacksmith shop to Mr. Horn and Edward S. Hay. The former ex pects to build a hoUHe and the latter, a house, barn and lumber yard Mrs. Paul jilughes, who has been 1 the Hood itlver hospital for the past two weeks, returned home last Sun day. We are glad tp say that Mrs. Crap- per is Improving from her long ill ness. I.ast Thursday the Ladles' Aid began their work at the home of Mrs. Eng. llnh. They are preparing for the Ap ron (iazaar and meet this Thursday at Mrs. A. O. Anderson's. Little Miss Katherlne Stranahan spent Saturday and Sunday with Miss Flora Wilson at her home In Hood Klver. Mrs. J. W. Palmer spent last 'Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Gleason, on the East Side. Miss Mary Irwin, who has been tak ing a business course at Corvallis arrived home last Saturday evening to stay on the ranch for the next few months UNDERWOOD Election of school directors for Via- tricts Number 17 and 21 was held Saturday, March 1. Mrs. A. J. Haynes entertained the I'till Dulce Club at her residence Fri day, February 28. Holland Cash was a Hood River vis itor Friday. Mrs. G. 11. Marsh has returned home from Portland. Mrs. Hedrick is rapidly recovering from a severe attack of bronchitis. Several houses have been built here and are now occupied by the team bosss working for the Northwestern Electric Company. Another scow has been built by O. I). Trelber to take care of the extra business. Mr and Mrs. W. H. Uine have gone to Portland for a short time Some of the farmers of this section have commenced plowing. CENTRAL VALE Charles Jensen departed last week for Vancouver, 11. C, to be gone for some time. Mr. Lester has gone over to Pine Grove to prune for Mr. Thompson. Many of the men of the neighbor- hod went to Hood River Saturday to attend the ditch meeting. Frank Ma usee returned Sunday from Portland. The entertainment at the school house last Thursday was a great suc cess, although there were not as many present as had been expected. It. N. Johnson will move his family this week from the Docker place Into the house occupied last summer by A. C. J. Farrell. Miss Hell spent the week end with her sister, Mrs Furrow. J. H. Anderson of Hood River visited the Hagens Sunday. P. Hansen and family spent Sunday in Tine Grove. Mrs. Fuller and son went to Hood River Saturday to remain a few days. Gertrude Hansen is recovering rap- Idly from her operation, being now able to sit up. She was presented Satur day with a beautiful bunch of carna tions from the Ferguson Bible Class. We are all hoping that the roads will soon be In good shape so she can re turn home as soon as she Is strong enough. BARRETT Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Armstrong of Portland were here over the week end. Mrs. Armstrong expects to spend the summer on the ranch. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Moller left for New York Friday. Mr. Moller's fath er Is seriously 111. Roy I). Smith, who was recovering from la grippe, has suffered a relapse and Is quite 111 Mr. Hlldebrand of Albany was a recent visitor at the home of his sister, Mrs. Walters. Mrs. Fred Tate, who Is In the Cot tage Hospital, Is rapidly regaining her health. A farewell reception was held last Thursday for the Mcintosh family. Many of their friends and neighbors were there to bid them good bye. They have been good friends to many of us and will be missed. The Woman's Christian Auxiliary will meet with Mrs. Gibbons next Wed nesday evening. All are Invited to at tend. William Walters has been under the weather for the past few days. W. E. Cauller left for Portland Tues day to spend a few days. W. Hull of Portland spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Sweaney. W. Stauffer has returned from Lex ington, Or., where he was overseeing work on his farm. The first night meeting of the Bar rett school literary society was held laBt Thursday evening. The parents were Invited and a number were pres ent. The elders talked gardene, ete. after the program. Next Friday evening the C. E. will hold a business meeting at the home of Wni. Walters in East Barrett. All En deavorers are asked to be present. Mrs. Sunderland, Mrs. Mcintosh's sister has returned from Illinois to make this her home. GRACE U. B.
