STRANAHAN HAS LAST BILL
Senator Neuner's record of introduc
ing a bill in the Senate at Salem
on the 44th day of the session was
gone one better yet by Representa
tive Stranahan of this city. He intro
duced a bill in the House on the 45th
day.
The bill took the number of 632, and
under suspension of the rules, was
put through to a third reading and
pased, all in five minutes. It pro
vides salary Increases for officials of
Hood River fcounty.
Mr. Stranahan bad a similar bill in
the House early in the session, but
withdrew it, thinking the blanket
county bill would make it unneces
sary. Fearing this might be killed
in the Senate, however, he introduc
ed it to make sure.

LIFEJFTER DEATH
Preaching Sunday on the light after
death, Rev. H. A. MacDonald outlined
the Unitarian belief in substance as
follows:
"There is no death;
What seems so is transition."
Death may be spoken of the body,
but not of the soul. In the soul's life
there is no break, but it flows on and
on without Interruptions. The life of
the soul, its unhappinesa or happiness,
depends on its character if it is obed
ient to the high call of righteousness
it filids peace, if it disobeys, it finds
pain here below. In the life beyond
we feel that it will abide by these
same unchangeable: principles. Our
thought is that as long as the soul is
soul, as long as you are you, the life
must grow by thf same laws that we
know in this life. And so, since the
greatest Joy in this life is growing in
to larger selfhood, so in the future
life, joy will come in the same way.
Thus growing more perfect in char
acter and in usefulness will be the
soul's happy purpose.
In this present life the happiness
and unhappinesa are graded, and we
fall short insofar as we are strong.
The extent of wrong doing measures
the intensity of pain, and mere indiffer
ence brings little suffering as compar
ed with wilful opposition to good and
right. And fo we believe God has
made the world that for each act of
righteousness he rewards us to the
extent of the worth of our act. Thus
we think it must be in the life of
death, all souls are to live on, govern
ed by those principles of consequence
for sin and results of right doing.
If there is no break In the soul life
the life beyonds begins where this
one leaves off, and as we have sown
here, so shall we be St the passing
over of the soul.
Everything is in our own keeping
all depends on what we choose. In
the future also, all will depend on
the choice we make, and we shall
have the same opportunities to choose.
All life is one Immortality Is given
us with our souls, and we hope to
live on with the opportunity of en
larging life even as we have learned
to live upon the earth. In our earthly
BELIEVE IN DIVERSIFYING
While fruit crrnwlne Is ranidlv be
coming one of the leading industries in
Bayfield Co., Wis., it is well recogniz
ed that any section which depends ex
clusively on one Industry is not do
ing its best. It Is one-sided and lack
ing in the conditions which go to
build up the strongest of agricultural
communities. In one-crop farming
where a large community is engaged in
producing the samp line, there is too
much danger of off years, and then the
entire community must suffer. The
farmers along the south shore country
have grasped the Idea, and are not
permitting their section to become an
exclusive fruit community. Wisconsin
is too great a dairying state for any
portion of its valuable acres to be
devoted exclusively to fruit. Dairying
stock raising and general agriculture
are receiving as much, If not more at
tention in Bayfield and Douglas coun
ties as fruit growing.
Mrs. Archie Pierce of Odell went to
Portland last week to undergo medical
life we may choose to do wrong, and
as a consequence we suffer. In the
life after death we think we shall
have the same power to choose, and
the consequences will be the same
pain, regret, remorse. And whatev
er grief or suffering we have now, we
shall carry with us. Life after death
will bring us the same opportunity we
now have of making good to some
extent our past lives, of making new
resolves, to mend our ways, to cast
off the shackles of wrong and go for
ward to a more righteous, manly or
womanly life.
We believe God's love is constant
and whether on this earth or elsewhere
he will invite us to give our lives to
the building of character and to ser
vice in His name. Everyday we neg
lect to dedicate our souls to righteous
ness, we Increase our sufferings and
the life beyond will be so much harder.
So if we wisely choose now for God
and humanity,, we shall be building
for an eternity that Is filled with peace
and hope.
,T WAS Mr. Doolev who said that "ODDortunitv
knocks at laste wanst at ivery man's dure, and
sometimes it knocks so harrd that it knocks the
dure in." We don't want tq knock your door in to tell
you how. you can save a few dollars. But nevertheless a
whole lot of people are overlooking an opportunity to make
a saving. We have figured it out several times in our
ads., and have seen it work out in actual practice, that a
Power Sprayer is a cash saver.
For the sake of argument, suppose a sprayer cost you
$350.00 with full equipment, ready for work. We have
cheaper machines with smaller capacity and higher priced
ones with larger capacity but this $350.00 is an average.
All right! The interest on this investment will amount to
$27 a year. To operate the machine a full day will require
three gallons of gasoline. We are putting this amount at
three gallons because we cover the cost of lubricating oil
also. As a matter of fact this is nearly twice as much as
is actually neededbut for the sake of argument leave it
at three gallons. This costs you 75c for full.10 hours run.
Now suppose you have twenty acres in trees. You can
cover this twenty acres in two -days but let's say it takes
you three days. Three times 75c is $2.25. Now you will
spray at least six times during the year. Six times $2.25
is $13.50. Now add your interest on the investment, $27,
and we have a total of $40.50. This covers the entire cost
of spraying material excepted, of course a twenty acre
tract. Just a fraction over $2.02 per acre. Can you beat
it with your hand pump? Not for twice the amount!
Now suppose you don't know a thing about a gasoline
engine. If you buy a sprayer from us, we teach you, and
charge you absolutely nothing for our services. We keep
your sprayer in repair and charge you nothing. All this
service for a full year absolutely free. We keep a car
just to make our service to you more efficient.
We can afford to do this because we have the best
sprayers on the market. They require less attention, and
are easiest to repair in case of accident; If you should for
get to drain your pump during the winter and it freezes,
you have a small sub-base to buy. If you freeze some
other pumps offered you, you have an entire new pump to
buy at a cost over fifteen times as great. This is just
one small point but it's a big point when you come to pay
out good money foolishly. Investigate this one point and
then come and ask us some others. We'll give you some
good pointers straight from the shoulder.
We sell the New Way Sprayers, made by the John
Deere Plow Co., and the Hardie Sprayers, made by the
Hardie Mfg. Co. Names of Valley owners furnished on
application. Catalogues mailed on request a postal will
