PROPER CARE WILL SAVE
TREES INJURED BYSTORM
(Continued From Pure 1)
produce heavy yield of healthy fruit
true to type. To remove a strong
growing root and replace It with a
tree from the nursery Is a mistake.
The well established root yteni
will in two or three year produce a
top growth that will lie nearly as
large If not a large a one on an un
injured specimen of the same sea
son's setting.
(ienerally the use of grafting waxen
ha not given very satisfactory re
sult. The following formula and
method of mixing produces a wax
that give almost universal satisfac
tion and I the only one recommend
ed for orchard work. To prepare the
wax use: Kosln, five pounds; ln-es-wax,
one pound; charcoal (pulver
ized very finely I one-half pound; raw
linseed oil, one gill.
Melt the rosin and lieenwax togeth
er over a slow fire. Stir la the char-
i coal slowly In order to make a
smooth mixture. Then stir In the
! raw linseed oil or grease of Home
form. This wax will become very
hard. Before cooling pour It In
i greased pan or paper boxe which
have been coated with oil. Large
quantities may be made at one time
and stored until needed, a till wax
may be kept Indefinitely. To upply
thl wax It must be melted und ap.
plied while warm. A email paint
brush i the most desirable tool for
making the applications. A special
grafting pot Is found most servicea
ble w Idle using this wax. A plan of
the iot maybe had at the oflice of
the plant pathologist.
