Great advances tn road building

figures of county Judges. In 11M)5
Oregon had 33,0H) miles of roads and
spent fsoo.OOO in repairs and con
structlon. In 1910, with 40,000 miles
of roads, 2,000,000 was spent.

Active work on the million dollar
power plant to be Installed by the
Northwestern Electric Company,
was commenced near Husum Tues
day. Under the direction of C. B.
Clegg, chief engineer, a survey I be
ing made for a macadamized road
from the dam site on tbe White Sal
mon river four miles below here to a
Junction with the I'nderwood
Husum county road. The road will
be 30 feet wide, and heavy auto
trucks will haul supplies for the
power plant from the Underwood
station.
The company has also put a crew
of men at work on tbe dam site, tak
ing soundings, as to tbe nature of
tbe foundation. A concrete mixer
has been shipped for use on the road
and at tbe power site.
