N 00 Hood Klver Commercial Club, WYOMING ELK IN OREGON PRESERVE Through the efforts of State Game Warden William L. Flnley, on his recent visit at Washington, D. C, the government has been persuaded to donate fifteen elk to the state of Oregon. These animals will be takeu from the forest reserves In Wyoming, crated and transported to Oregon as soon as the people of this state provide an adequate pasture for them. They will become the sole property of Oregon and serve to per petuate a race of noble animals that Is rapidly becoming extinct. In the northwestern part of the state there Is a 2500-acre pasture that has leeu set aside by the national government for testing the utility of a coyote-proof fence. It Is said to have proven effective for that pur pose, and the forestry service, ac cording to Warden Floley, Is wllllDg to give this big park to the state as an elk reserve. The matter of loca tion, however, has not been settled, as this Is a question that will be left largely to the state at large, as It Is distinctly a matter of public Interest.
