The petitions will be presented to the pro;erty owners at once. If any are In doubt. It Is sug gested that they make careful In quiries from those who present the petitions." Publicity In this, as In other mat ters, will lie lieneflclal to all. Those who understand the project realize how little the library commit tee Is asking and bow much It hopes to accomplish. We wish to bring Hood Klver up to the Intellectual status of the progressive western cities. The value of a public library Is well stated In these words by F. A. llutchlns: '"Libraries are needed to furnish the pupils of our schools the in centive and the opportunity for wider study; to teach them the 'art and science of reading for a purpose;' to give the boys and girls with a hidden talent the chance to develop It; to give to mechanics nnd artisans a chance to know what their ambi tious fellows are doing; to give to men and women, weary nnd worn from treading a narrow round, ex cursions In fresh and delightful fields; to give to clubs for study and recrea tion, material for better work, nnd, last but not least, to give wholesome employmeuB to all classes for those Idle hours that wreck more lives than any other cause." FOOTBALL GAMES RESULTJN 0 TO 0 Scoreless games seem to lie the rule In local football contests this year. The Hood Klver Uoosters, Junior, who played the Prlneville High School team Friday, failed to score, as did also the visitors. The game was a hard fought contest, with the local boys putting up the best of It. Although the Prlneville team averaged ten pounds more than the Hood Klver team, the (rook county aggregation could not down their lighter, aggressive and active rivals. Sunday the Wabash Athletic Club team, of Portland, played the big Hood Klver Booster team. Neltfier side scored, the game resulting In a goose egg all 'round. The sport wns good, however, and was witnessed by a fair sized attendance. Cottage Kospkal Hood River's Medical In stitution. Open to the public for the treatment of Medical and Surgical cases.
