THE HOOD RIVER NEWS, WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 18. 1911 5 NEW MEXICO CLAIMS FIRST APPLE TREES "The (iarilt-u of Kilen wan located In New Mexico ami some of tli orig inal apple tree are Htlll Mtamllng." Thin Ih the claim made !y many peo ple of one of the new eat Htatett In the t'uton, ond New Mexico Ih making cotiHlderable uoIhu about the matter recently, due to the activity In the apple dlMtrlctH of that state In prepa ration for the American apple expo sition which will 1m held In Denver the week of November 12. Apples from these trees will lie exhibited at the show. Of course the counterclaim Is made that the aforesaid apple trees were planted or, rather, grew from seeds planted by the Spaulsh Invaders some three hundred years ago. lie that as It may, the trees are stand log near the towu of Mnnzano, which Is the Spaulsh word for apple, and In the vicinity of the old ruins of Cuara, Abo and irand (Julvlra. And It must le admitted that the apples that will be exhibited from these trees at the Denver show will be a cliixHy display. ICHend has It that the original set tlers were driven out of the country or killed by the Comanche Indians or other tribes of savages that Infested that sectlou. When the Mexicans re settled the country about one hun dred years ago they found the trees still standing and t tearing fruit, and they named the town Mnnzano. So the fact Is undisputed that the trees are at least more than one hundred yenrs old. The management of the apple show has decided to hold a Garden of Kden wedding one night during the show. The given name of the groom must be Adam and that of the bride, Kve. If such a couple can be found In any state on the American continent, the ceremony will be performed on a stage In the center of the big Audito rium, where It will be witnessed by 12,000 people, which Is the capacity of the building.' The couple will be given a handsome wedding present and ulso will Ih- presented with the npples from the trees which are said, by some people, to have stood In the (iarden of Kden. (Soltre cured. There Is only one way to cure deaf ness, and that Is by constitutional remedies. Deafness Is cnused by an Inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Kustachlan Tute. Wheu this tube Is Inflamed you have a rumbling sound or Imperfect hearing, and when It Is entirely closed, deaf nese Is the result; and unless the In flammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal con dition, hearing will be destroyed for ever. Nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which Is nothing, but an Inflamed condition of the mu cous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars Heward for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Ca tarrh Cure. Send for circulars free. F ..I. Cheney & Co., Toledo, . Sold by druggists, 75e. Take Hall's Fain lly Pills for constipation. A Good Position Can be had by ambitious young men and ladles In the field of "wire less" or railway telegraphy.
