content. In all there were fourteen
debater and they are cald to have
shown a treat deal of proficiency.
The judges, lienlden the faculty of the
school, were Mrs. It. I). loiild, who
represented the Woman's 'lul. At
torney F. I". Howell and Kev. J. U.
HargreaveH.
The successful candidate are Karl
Spauldlnn, U-ster Murphy, Lynn
Youn, Forest Moe, Viola Nickelsen
and Hazel Curtain. The nuestion to
le debated Is, "Uesolved, That the
Chinese exclusion act should include
all Asiatic peoples."
It is expected that Hood Iliver
will put a letter team in the field
this vear, to compete with the other
schools, than it has ever had. and
that the contests will lie much more
Interesting. About twice as many
schools will enter, hast year the de
bates ended in a tiz.le after Hood
Iliver had secured an advantage by
defeating l'arkplace. Through at
tempted unfair management the
series of debates could not lie con
tinued. It Is expected that t he man
agement this year will be Impartial
und effective, and it Is hoped that
the local team will emerge from the
contests with honors.

Helen Husbands, came up from
Portland Thursday to spend a week
with the home folks.
Mrs. P. S. Hughes and two sons
left Friday for Oakland. Calif., to
spend the winter with relatives.

varieties as named. The apples en-
tered for this prize cannot be entered

gold watch donated by J. C. Pearson

The rules adopted by the directors
for fruit exhibitors are as follows:
1. All boxed apples and pears
must be wrapped, except top layer.
-. All apples entered In box com
petitions must be exhibited In boxes
of one of the following dimensions j
(Inside measurement): ("Oregon!
Special" box I, or Klxll'ixls Inches.
('Oregon Standard" box), or lOxllx
! I'd inches.
No fruit may be entered for
more than one premium In general
exhibit class.
4. No exhibitor may make more
than one entry for tliesame premium.
.1. All packages must have name
and full address of exhibitor on pack
age or box, also variety and number
of apples contained therein.
i. All fruit entered for prizes must
be grown In orchard owned by ex
hibitor, or of which he Is lessee.
7. No exhibit may be removed
from the hall without written per
mit of chairman of exhibits commit
tee. No exhibit can be removed
until end of the show.

prepaid express, or delivered In per
son, to the Hood Iliver Apple Fair

exhibit room by 2 o'clock noon on
Wednesday, Nov. IS I, and be open to
the general public Thursday , Nov. 1M,

II. The exhibit room will be In
charge of a superintendent of exhib
its, and the management will use all
diligence to Insure the safety of ex
hibits after their arrival and ar
rangement, but In no case will l
responsible for any loss or damage
that may occur t hereto.
2. A plate of apples or pears shall
contain live specimens. Plates will
lie furnished by the society.
