Death of Father Placidus
Word wan received here Tuesday
that Rev. Father Macl'Ius, (). F, M.,
formerly pastor In charge of the
Catholic I'arisli of Hood River, had
died Sunday at the Old Mission at
Santa Rnrbara, Calif. Father I'lacl
dun' family name wan Kraekeler,
and for many yearn he wan associ
ated with religious work among the
Indians in Michigan. Later he was
pastor of St. Anthony's church In
San Francisco, and held this charge
until the earthquake. He Is well re-memls-reil
In Hood River, where he
was highly esteemed.
Lose Little Daughter.
Dorothy Irene Diet, the little nine
year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.
C. Diet died Sunduv Oct. 2id after a
long Illness. Funeral services were
held Monday afternoon at Rartmcss
chapel conducted by Rev. C. K. I'erry
of the Christian Missionary Alliance.

stories have been set all out lu con
nection with the organization, and
he writes the News as follows:
To The Editor:
There seems to be considerable
talk going through the town anil
valley to the effect that the Commer
cial Club was responsible for the two
meetings recently held in the club
rooms uuder the auspices of the Or
egon Home Rule Association. It
has been stated that the Commercial
Club paid for the distributing of ad
vertising matter concerning these
meetings. Such a statement In abso
lutely false, based either on malicious
misrepresentation or a misunder
standing of facts.
The Commercial Club In connected
in no way with any political or nou
polltical party, nor has It any view s
on prohibition or antl-prohlbltlon.
The Assembly Hall of the club rooms
Is for rent at a stipulated price per
evening to anybody for any purpose
as long as It Is legitimate and proper.
When the Oregon Home Rule As
sociation rents the Assembly Hall of
the club rowins, the Commercial Club
Is In no way responsible for any feel
ing that may come up through peo
ple having antagonistic views. The
Commercial Club Is an organization
having t lie welfare of the whole val
ley ami town at heart, whose only
business in life Is the advancement of
this town and valley.
