SAYS OREGON LIVELIEST
CENTER IN THE COUNTRY
Oregon today Is the liveliest center
of the nation, according to Louis
Gerllnger, president of the Columbia
Valley Kallroad Compauy, who has
just returned from a month's stay In
New York.
"All eastern business Interests are
waiting for the election and Its re
suits," said Mr. (Jerllnger yesterday
"The railroads are holding off con
struction work. But I return to Or
egoii to find business bigger and
better than ever.
"The reason for It Is that Wall
street no longer controls the Pacific
coast. Our centers of money influ
ence are here. We are not dependent
upon all street nor upon any east
ern power for our prosperity. Our
prosperltv lies In our own resources.
and we do not need to wait for an
election to see whet her we are going
to win or lost-. All the east seemed
tobequlet. All Oregon bums with
development.
