Dr. Malcom Bronson, who was so severely Injured a few weeks ago Is recovering nicely and Is expected home 1n a short time. A post card from A. C. Lender says that he with his family are nicely settled In a pleasant home in Port land and that Mr. Lender has se cured a position In one of the print ing establishments of that city. Ralph Shelley of Carson, Wash., was a Hood River visitor the fore part of the week looking after his land Interests In the valley and Incl dently having a good word to say of Hood River's progresslveness. Howard, In charge of the de velopment news of the Pacific Monthly, made the valley a visit Thursday for the purpose of securing material for a story for Opportunity, a Chicago publication, which has been devoting considerable space of late to the Northwest. The apple warehouses of the city were added to during the week to af ford Increased facilities for the band- ling of the enormous apple crop this fall. A large extension roof was built to the Apple Growers' I'nlon warehouse, as was also done to the warehouse of the Davidson Fruit Co. The regular monthly meeting of the Hood River Commercial Club has been changed, for this month ouly, and will be held Monday, Oct. 17th. The club has a membership now of over 4"0. Many matters of Impor tance will come up before the club for their consideration and a full at tendance is therefore urged. George Palmer Putnam, owner of the Bend Bulletin, now one of the best and most enterprising county papers In the state, was here Thurs day gathering Information for a magazine article. Mr. Putnam Is a son of G. P. Putnam, the widely known New Vo'k publisher, and has been In Oregon several years. Iave Parkdale at SV) p. m., arriving at Hood River at 4 p. m., which Include a .'lO-mlnu'e stop at Dee. This will enable patrons of the line to make connections with either of the afternoon trains, and give ample time for shopping In Hood River. W. L. Cpson came up from Port land Saturday evening and spent Sunday with his family. O. W. Butts, a promlneut commis sion man of Omaha, Neb., was In the city last week, looking after the ap ple trade. The pesky, but dear, little Hies are again with us, more uotlceable than ever. This Is probably due to the fact that the carnival Is on. Apple growers of Hood River val ley are notified and requested to hold their choicest apples for display pur poses at the apple fair to be held In this city next month. Heretofore committees would go among the growers advising them to save the finest of the packs for exhibition purposes Instead of shipping ns soon as boxed, but this year it Is hoped that all growers will take timely heed and pride In the matter of a display and help make the "greatest exhibition ever" nil that It Is possi ble to make It. It should be the world's greatest display of apples. Save your best and thereby be one of the exhibitors as well as a spectator. J. F.
