Dutro spent several days In I'ortland last week In connection with an operation which was per formed Tuesday on Mrs. Dutro for uppendlcltls, by Ir. J. K. Eocke. We are pleased to note that the op eration was successful and that Mrs. Dutro Is doing nicely. M. J. VanVorst, well known here and a candidate for Joint senator. has leen busy the past week getting his candidacy lefore the people of Skamania and Klickitat counties. Hallaiu, who Is Interested In the large tract of land recently bought by Iowa and Nebraska peo ple from Mrs. MacKae, arrived here last week aud Is making prepara tions to have It cleared. The Dalles Chronicle notes that W. E. Mills paid a 110 fine In City Re corder Davis' court last week, plead ing guilty to the charge of operating his automobile for hire without a license. McMillan, formerly of Hood Klver, but now living at Salem Is visiting friends at Hood Klver. Mrs. F. K. Howard left Thursday for a two weeks' visit with friends and relatives In Portland and Van couver, Wash. Mrs. P. A. Clancey, who has leen spending the summer at her country place near Fir, returned to Portland Monday for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Page were guests Sunday at the DeHart home. Mr. Page last year bought the choice grade of Spitz and Newtownesold by the union. LeKoy Armstrong returned Wed nesday from a ten days' stay at Salt Eake City and, accompanied by Mrs Armstrong, went to Portland Wed nesday afternoon. O. P. Schenck and daughter, who have been spending the summer at their country place, left Monday morning on the boat for Portland and took the train from there for their home in Omaha. A new use for automobile goggles: was noted by visitors at the railroad station Saturday, where one of the passengers on a train had a pair that he was using to protect his eyes while he kept his head out of the window.
