Bert VanHorn, member of the Ia
v!dncm Fruit Company, and oue of
the liest pouted frultmen and lurgewt
operators In tue country, announce!
that the Davldaon Company In In the
market for Hood Kiver applet) thin
year and that he believes the crop
should bring good money.
Mr. VanHorn has developed an
much fruit land as anybody at Hood
ttfver, and, In fact, la one of the
heaviest owners of orchard property
In the valley. Since his arrival here
several weeks ago he has made an
Inspection of the apple crops, and
says he takes the opposite view of
buyers who believe the Hood Kiver
fruit should not bring as good a
price as last year. In fact, Mr. Van
Horn warns growers against getting
cold feet or letting their apples go at
anything but a highly profitable
figure. His reason for this, he Kays,
is his interest In the Hood Itlver
country, and also because be believes
crop conditions throughout the
country do not warrant any slump
In prices. He-dlls attention to the
short crop In many districts, the In
crease In the demand for fancy
apples, and wider marker, and adds
that growers should not le misled In
disposing of their fruits.
The Davidson Company has closed
with several growers for their fruit,
and expects this year to handle a
greater volume of business than In
several years.

ARE WE GOING TO
HAVE AFRUIT FAIR
Last fall a movement was started
to incorporate, buy ground, erect a
building and have a permanent home
tor an annual fruit fair, but not suffi
cient support was giveu to warrant
the board to go ahead. Too many
of our people wanted to wait and
see the prospect for this year.
This summer it was thought for a
time suitable quarters were to be
provided which could be rented, but
this failed to materialize and again
the board have taken up the build
ing proposition. An option on a
suitable location has been secured
and we have been soliciting subscrip
tions for stock ou a proposition
which It seems can be made to pay
expenses.
We are uot having the support
that such a movement warrants.
No one questions or doubts the
many benefits to be derived from the
fruit fair, but too many are willing
to set by and allow the other fellow
to do the work and put up the nec
essary funds to do the business.
The answer to our question lies
with the people of Hood River aud
Hood River valley. If we are to
have a fair (and we never needed
one more than this year) we must
get busy. A building must be erected
and It Is up to you fellow citizens to
provide the funds.
C. I). Thompson, Sec'y Board.

his family at present, taking an out
ing. Several other Hood River peo
ple are contemplating buying at Klk
Creek, and it Is expected to secure
quite a colony from the valley before
the lots are all sold. Mr. Kvans had
a good word to say fur Hood River,
aud believes It to be the finest fruit
country In the state. He Is an ar
dent enthusiast In regard to Ore
gon's future, and predicts a wonder
ful development for It.
