INTEREST CONTINUES
IN COUNTY POLITICS
County politics has continued to
occupy a share of the public Interest
during the week. Several new can
didates have announced their Inten
tion to run for office, while others
have declined to accept the nomina
tions made by the couty assembly.
The refusal of J. P. Lucas to become
a candidate for assessor has made It
necessary for the Republican County
Central Committee to select another
candidate and the uomluution has
been tendered to Henry Howe, who
is now at Walla Walla and who Is
expected to accept. Dr. ttroslus has
also refused to become u candidate
for county coroner, making It neces
sary to secure a some one for this
oflice. Ho far there Is no aspirant so ;
the nomlantlon Is still open.
W. K. Hanson deputy county clerk
and who has filled this position very

before the primaries for the Repub
lican nomination for county clerk.

To Establish Milk Depot

BECOME GARAGE
An Interesting old landmark in
Jiood River took a change of posl
tloa and a new lease of life this week
when the old store building on the
l'aradlse Farm tract was moved to
le transformed Into a garage. The
building will occupy a position west
of the residence of Mr. and Mrs. 1a.'
Armstrong. Originally it was own
ed by the late Dr. W. ,. Adams and
was the first store building at Hood
River. Its construction was com
menced In Wtl and the store was op
ened for business In 177. Notwith
standing Its long and somewhat va
ried career th old timer Is In an ex
cellent state of preservation and
good for many years to come as the
home of the irrepressible honk
wagon.

That Hood River is soon to have a
wireless telegraph plant la evident
from the progress now being made
by Paul Manning In the construction
of his system of devices with which
he Is certain to snatch the secrets
from the clouds. The basic plant
upon which Paul Is at work has been
tried out and found efficient fur
short distance communications and
the Improvements contemplated by
the hustling Journal carrier promise
to !e of value. Mr. Manning stated
that he would be able to communi
cate with the wireless plant at Port
land and also ships at sea.

Tate, a cousin of the bride, was ring
bearer.
The ceremony was performed by

conclusion of the ceremonv the
young party retired to the beautiful
country home of Mr. and Mrs. C. D.

and the groom Is a civil engineer and
well known at Hood River. Mr,
and Mrs. Klngsley will make their
future home In Hood River. The

Lawn Picnic at Barrett
The lawn picnic of the Itarrttt
Country Club Friday evening at the
home of J. H. Jeffrey was an unquali
fied success, nearly fifty being pres
ent. The gentlemen showed their
appreciation by coming, ami ex
pressed as much zeal In having a
good time and In getting acquainted
with each other as they do In culti
vating their fine orchards. A delicious
buffet supper was served. It Is the
plan of the Club to have these guest
evenings once a month. The next
regular meeting of the Club will be
with Mrs. I. Inning.

ment to the Heights. On Thursday
afternoon the ladles of the church
