AMERICAN WOMAN'S
LEAGUE CONVENTION
On June 5th tbe nix (Megaton to
the American Woman's League firnt
national convention boarded the
Chicago Limited at 11 a. ni. with
happy heart amldttt the glad wnd
off of many friend and I'nguern
who came to wlHh them "God tpeed."
They were laden by friends with
rosea, the pride of Hood Klver, whone
fragrance was significant of what
the future held In store for those go
ing forth In quest of the truth, and
with the gratifying knowledge that
they were a part of this great plan
for the upbuilding and uplifting of
those who would avail themselves
of the great advantages provided by
Mr. E. O. Lewis In his great "dream"
the People's 'Diversity, which Is
materializing so fast that people
stand and gaze In astonishment.
As the guests of Mr. Iew In we were
provided with first class accommo
dations of coach, sleeper and the
delectable edibles of a first class
diner without any expense to our
selves. We found out by Inquiry
that delegates were uboard from
Portland, Salem, Medford, Hlllsboro
and NewlxTg, and as we sped along
we were Joined by delegates from
Pendleton tnid every stop eastward
until we numbered seventy-one of
the most enthusiastic men and wo
men who talked league and yelled
until those who were not familiar
with the work of the Iengue bad to
stop and take notice.
The delegates tx-lng in a poetical
mood formed the following rally cry:
"Bulah! Ilulah! Purple and white,
E. (i. Lewis, he's all right. Kali!
Hah! Kah! Who are we? The Arnerl
ran Woman's league, you see."
On arriving at I'litverslty City
Wednesday evenlntf we were met by
a committee of entertainment who
conducted us to our headquarters
amidst a downpour quite different
from the Oregon "mist" which was
a new experience to many of our
crowd, Vet our ardour was not
cooled by such a trifle, as we gazed
for the first time upon the tsaut1ful
buildings and grounds decorated
with "old glory" and red, white and
blue In honor of this great occasion.
Language falls me to portray our
feelings on looking at the hundreds
of employees each doing their liest to
make the thousands of delegates
comfortable and at home In their
tx-autlful city.
The Hood Klver delegates were en
tertained at Lenox Hall, a private
school for girls, this lelng their va
cation time, where they were given
luncheon, Nuuitiful quarters and
beds which ended the day Wednes
day, June th. We will give you our
Impressions In next Issue.
