Singer Will Live at Hood River "Murphy, the Mun Who Sings to Beat the Band," was here Sunday for a farewell look at his rauch be fore leaving for the east to fill an engagement. Mr. Mnrphy realizes that the time will come when he w 111 get tired of singing to beat the band and wants a place where the nolMlest musical sound will be the humming of bees In an orchard. Therefore he has acquired a snug little orchard In the far recesses of the L'pper Valley with part of the tidy sum that he has laid up for a rainy day. There he w ill rest from his labors and give the fog horn voice that has won him name and fame a vacation. As his name Indi cates Mr. Murphy Is not French. In fact he was born In dear old London, which Is not, however, so far away from Ireland that an attentive lis tener cannot detect a suspicion of brogue when he speaks. A little blarney along with It adds Interest to his conversation. Blue-eyed, smooth shaven ami clean cut he Is the acme of optimism and enthusi asm, and after meeting him It Is easy to understand why the band has no show when Murphy sings. Monday he left for Portland and ex- pects to leave the coast shortly for New York, where he will give the bands of the empire state a whirl. hip Your Strawberries mrnm r WITH THE DAVIDSON R U I T COMPANY and get the benefit of SEVENTEEN YEARS SUCCESSFUL EXPE RIENCE in handling this delicate fruit.
