Tuesdry. May 3rd. (Special) The Portland business men returned from their visit to thir ty Oregon points intensely enthused. Aside from the splendid welcome ex tended to them everywhere, some of the more homely features appealed to them specially for Instance the luclous asparagus, toothsome new potatoes and strawberries which were sent to the excursion diner by different communities. The aesthe tic side was not overlooked, either, and at several points the excursion ists found upon returning to their train that It had been converted Into a bower of roses or other blossoms. Development meetings are sched uled this week at Bend and Prlne vllle, the following Monday at Burns. Each meeting will be held by the commercial organization and draw a large attendance from miles around. Never was, the Rose Festival so universally recognized as this year. Various railroads have Issued won derfully attractive booklets and are devoting all their advertising to the event. Roses promise Just as heavy a crop as the more substantial pro ducts such as fruit and grain. Oregon advertising In metropoli tan eastern papers has brought a flood of Inquiry which all but swamped the head offices of the Ore gon Development League. Probably the record-breaking freeze through out the Middle West and East, which occurred at the time this advertising appeared, had a great effect upon the number of Inquiries. Business had little attention In Portland Friday and Saturday of ast week, for the census was the en grossing subject. Large business In terests volunteered their best men as peclal census enumerators to assist n the work without compensation. and every effort, was made to get a fair count, the whole to be carefully checked over for accuracy. The Pacific Coast Ad Men's League will meet in San Francisco from June 22nd to June 24th, and the Port land Ad Club will entertain several delegations of advertising men from Washington cities, en route to this convention, Including a specially large representation from Spokane. President Whltemore and Secretary Campbell of the Portland Ad Club will go South with their brothers for the convention. Cfturcft rWfc4 Belmont Methodist Church II. J. Wood, pastor.
