J. F. Reynolds at one time a resi

prietor of a store at Isingen was here
Saturday. Mr. Reynolds Is now en
gaged in wheat farming in eastern
Oregon.
I). X. Ryerlee of St. Johns was up
the early part of the week to pay his
Hood River taxes and to visit old
friends. I). N. says the Apple City is
going some. The new brick blocks
look good to him.
Miss Mabel Young who has been at
Heppner for several weeks returned
to Hood River last week. Miss
Young contemplates a trip to south
ern Oregon In the near future in
quest of land in Lake county.
The ladies aid society of the Valley
Christian church calls attention to
the excellent work done on the
manse by Mr. Nesblt and wish
through the News to extend thanks
to him which took the form of a
resolution adopted at a recent meet
ing of the society.
Lane & Kent, the Oak street to
bacconists, have had the front of
their store removed and have rear
ranged the fittings and show cases.
The store Is much more attractive
and convenient than formerly and Is
bringing them increased patromige.
The new meat market opened by
the Hood River Packing Company is
a palace affair In the meiit handling
line. Kqulpped with mirrors, plate
glass, oak and nickel trimmings, a
refrigerator of many tons capacity
and clean and sanitary It falls In line
with the progressive Ideas that char
acterize Hood River merchants. The
new market Is In charge of Andrew

Washington's state railroad com
missioners made Hood River a short
visit Friday. They came across the
river from White Salmon where they
had lieen on an official visit and took
supper at the Mt. Hood Hotel.
Later they went to The Dalles. The

W. O. Hadley returned from their

and wife who are pleasantly located
at Ventura. Mrs. Clark's health was
much benefitted by her trip.
The Hood River band Is being re
organized and will commence re
hearsals tonight at the Commercla
Ciub rooms. The band will Ih small
ler than formerly, but will be com
posed of all experienced musicians
and will take up high class music.
C. B. McReynolds, who has been
clerk In the postofllce for some time,
has resigned and taken a position
with the Bragg MercantlleCompany.
Mr. McReynolds Is familiar with the
grocery business and goes to the
Bragg company at an Increased sal
ary. Rawson ami Stanton have pur
chased several hundred acres of land
In Yamhill county, which they will
utilize In growing nursery stock. Mr.
Stanton returned from there last
week and states that he found It nec
essary to secure land away from
Hood River to supply the demand
for stock, on account of the limited
area here, and that land here was so
high It did not pay to use It for nurs
ery purposes.

gaged to furnish music and an ex
cursion will be run on the Mt. Hood
railroad to accommodate visitors.
I'ncle Josh was certainly the right
kind of an uncle. You can read
about him on another page. It looks
to us like Fade Josh was easy. He
certainly let loose of the coin In a
scandalous fashion. According to
the stort he bought a little of every
thing in Hood River.
Thos. Klnnaird and J. R. Kinney
have purchased the grocery business
of ('. K. Chapman on the Heights and
will take possession shortly. Mr..
Kinney has Is-en with the Bragg
company for some time and has a
wide acquaintance. .Mr. Klnnaird Is
also well known here having been In
business for a long time and It Is
predicted that the new firm will do
well.
C. A. Mordeu business manager of
the Oregonlan came to Hood River
Sunday anil went to his place le
t ween here and Mosler. Mr. Morden
bought the Ireland place and is
transforming It into one of the finest
apple ranches In this part of Oregon.
He returned to Portlaud Sunday
evening.
W. B. Dtckerson returned from the
east Friday where he recently took
the body of his brother for burial.
He was accompanied by Mrs. Dick
erson and little daughter. P. W.
Peck, Mr. Dickinson's brother-in-law,

River, Is here visiting for a few days.
