The Davenport heirs met Sunday
at the home of J. T. Davenport to
settle up some business and divide

Dinner parties have been the order
of the day for the past week, Mrs.
Hussey, Mrs. Cobb, Mrs. Lowden,
Mrs. BrUtol and Mrs. Cummins hav
ing entertained some of their friends,
but we understand that the season
of festivities Is about over, as the
chicken business requires all the
ladles attention now days.
Mrs. E. C. Hamilton Is preprrlng
to go to Portland and Oregon City
for a short visit.
Mr. Packard aud Mrs. Hussey
sang au exceptionally tine duet Sun
day morning. Those who were not
preseut at church missed a treat.
A handcar loaded with section men !
met a train on the high trestle at
I'nderwood one day this week. The
men managed to reach' a place of
safety, but the handcur was demol
ished. The Olsen Hotel has been remodel
ed throughout and has been fitted
with fire escapes.
The Stuart livery barn Is nearly
completed and will till a long felt
want here.
C. H. Cromwell was lu Underwood
this week getting his goods together
preparatory to move to Portland
where he expects to engage In busi
ness. Mrs. Kirwlu Is expected back to
spend the summer on her ranch In
the Sandell neighborhood.
The Westfall saw mill Is turnlug
out a very satisfactory grade of
lumber nowdays, but can hardly
keep up with the demand.
Harry Olsen has taken his boat
(The Seal) down the river for a gen
eral overhauling and palntlug. The
Seal has been In dally operation lor
ten hours a day for nearly a year
now, and has earned a few days rest.
