Miss Stafford came up from' Port land last week and spent several days here visiting friends. Martin Ernst rum, for several years a resident of Hood Klver, came up from Portland Friday for a visit with relatives and friends. A. D. VanSlckle arrived at Hood River Saturday and will reside here. He Is a friend of L. K. Armstrong, with whom be will make his home. Mrs. C. 11. Schmidt of Cleveland, Ohio, who was here last fall, arrived Friday to again Investigate Hood River country with the intention of Investing. V. i. Dr. Stanton Allen, after a seven months' absence In his former home In Milwaukee, Wis , returned to Hood River Saturday. Dr. Alien re ports un exceedingly severe winter lu Milwaukee with 12 inches of solid ice on the streets of that city whe he left there recently. Mrs. Allen who came west with him, stopied off at Seattle to visit relatives and Join Mrs. and Miss McLaren, wh have been staying there this winter Dr. Allen Is Interested In an electrical controlling device for streetcars that Is said to be the best In use and the company which owns it has been offered a, large amount to turn It over to one of too largest manufuc turlng concerns In the Pnlted States. The company believes, however, that It Is worth more than It has bee offered and has decided to retuln It for a higher figure.
