visiting friends.

and J. W. Hobb of Portland spent

weeks arrived home Friday. Mr.
Boue who was accompanied by Mrs.
Bone visited many of the popular
winter resorts In California and also

T. E. Dwier made a business trip
to Hood Klver last week. While
there he sold an S" acre tract of land,
which he bought for $1000. The land
was situated right In the mountains
but Mr. Dwier received a considera
tion of $4i")0, thereby more than

Ore., where they have been spending

evening from Denver for a visit with

A fire la the chimney of Frank
( handler's residence caused an alarm
to be sounded Wednesday morning.
It resulted in no damage but caused
a bad scare among some of the
neighbors.
John Snyder, of White Salmon. re.
lated to J. C. Snyder of Hood Klver,
died at the former place Friday, Feb.
2oth. The body was brought here
Saturday and Interred In Idlewlld
cemetery.

A. I. Mason went to Dufer Friday
where he spoke before the fruit grow
ers association.
Through an unintentional error in
the account of the memorial meeting
to Frances Wlllard which was held
by the W. C. T. U., mention of the
recitation so admirably given by
Miss Eva Yates was omitted. The
subject was "Edict of Sex" which
was given by this talented young
lady in a manner that excited the
admiration of her hearers.
Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Nlckelsen after
a three months' absence, during
which time they were In California,
other southwestern states and old
Mexico returned home last week
While lu Petaluma Mr. Nlckelsen
made a study of the poultry business
which Is carried on there very exten
slvely and discovered that this In
dustry gives big returns. Thousands
of chickens all of the White I'ghorn
breed are owned by Petaluma poul
try raisers and net them as high as
$2. per hen annually. When the
chick-hens are two years old they
are fattened and sold for food pur
poses. The eggs are delivered to the
Petaluma market dally where they
are bought up by dealers for cash.
