competed in a lip sync competition for local charities at the Columbia
River Roadhouse in Chinook. After two rounds and a fi nale, the
winner, Queen Katsuta, was chosen, and her charity of choice is the
Columbia River Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), which

Recovery grants ranging
from $1,000 to $5,000 will be
awarded to 485 artists repre-
senting the diversity of Ore-
gon through the Oregon Arts
Commission’s Artist Resil-
ience Program, a partner-
ship with Oregon Commu-
nity Foundation and the
James F. and Marion L. Miller
Foundation.
Artists from Astoria who
received grants for visual arts
are: Oscar de’Masi, $5,000,
Roger McKay, $5,000, Jill
McVarish, $1,100, and Kirista
Trask, $5,000; for music,
Jesse Falls, $1,100 and Mysh-
kin Warbler, $4,600. In addi-
tion, Dawning McGinnis, of
Gearhart, received $1,000 for
visual arts, and Rain Jordan,
of Warrenton, received $1,200
for visual arts.
The Oregon Arts Commis-
sion is supported with gen-
eral funds appropriated by
the state Legislature, and
with federal funds from the
National Endowment for the
Arts, as well as funds from
the Oregon Cultural Trust. For

free shred day
WARRENTON — A free
shred day will be held from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the
trucks are full, on Aug. 6 at
Lum’s Auto Center, 1605 S.E.

The event is hosted by
TLC, a division of Fibre Fed-
eral Credit Union, and Wauna
Credit Union.
Citizens can bring up to
three 10-ream paper boxes
and have them shredded
securely and professionally
for free. Volunteers will also
