Clatsop County artists receive
grant funding
ASTORIA – Clatsop County artists have
been awarded grants from the Oregon Arts
Commission’s artist resilience program.
Visual artists Rain Jordan, Oscar
de’Masi, Dawning McGinnis, Roger
McKay, Jill McVarish and Kirista Trask
join musicians Jesse Falls and Myshkin
Warbler in receiving support from the pro-
gram, established to invest in artists’ recov-
ery from losses during the COVID-19
pandemic.
Recovery grants ranging from $1,000 to
$5,000 were awarded to hundreds of art-
ists across the state. Disciplines represented
include literature, theater, dance, sculpture,
music, painting, photography, design, folk
arts and media.

Angora Hiking Club to tour
old growth forest, wetlands
ASTORIA – Angora Hiking Club will
explore the Old Growth Cedar Wetlands
Preserve near Rockaway Beach. Hikers
will meet on Marine Drive between Second
and Third streets at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Led by Jan Coughlin, the hike will
include a 154-foot old growth cedar, tow-
ering among other large trees within a
45-acre preserve. A new boardwalk, dedi-
cated in 2019, allows hikers to access the
tree from a trailhead beside U.S. Highway
101.
Angora Hiking Club member dues are
$10 annually. Participants need not be club
members. This hike requires a National
Parks Land Pass or additional fee. For more

Auditions set for ‘Gramercy
Ghost’ at Coaster Theatre
ASTORIA – Singer-songwriter Jessica
Fichot will perform at the Liberty Theatre
at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Fichot draws from styles as diverse
as French chanson, 1940s Shanghai jazz,
international swing and folk. Her perfor-
mances feature accordion, toy piano, clar-
inet and upright bass alongside vocals in
French, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and
English.

CANNON BEACH – Auditions for
“Gramercy Ghost,” a production fus-
ing romantic comedy and horror, will be
held at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse at
6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
The theater seeks nine actors to fi ll a
variety of roles for the play, which will be
directed by Deanna Duplechain. Rehearsals
will be held throughout August.
