Warrenton’s Cooley wins
National Merit scholarship
WARRENTON — The National Merit
Scholarship Corp. has announced over 1,200
additional winners of scholarships fi nanced
by colleges and universities.
One of the winners is Erik J. Cooley, of
Warrenton, who was home-schooled, and
plans to study computer engineering. He
received a National Merit University of
Idaho Scholarship.
College-sponsored awards provide
between $500 and $2,000 annually for up
to four years of undergraduate study at the
institution fi nancing the scholarship.

SEASIDE — The North Coast Land
Conservancy is holding a volunteer steward-
ship work party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat-
urday at Circle Creek Conservation Center,
which is just south of Seaside, at the end of
Rippet Road.
The work party will be removing police-
man’s helmet, also known as jewelweed or
Himalayan balsam, a nonnative invasive
plant species that thrives in moist areas and
riparian zones, threatening native plants.

Participants should bring lunch, water,
boots, gloves and sunscreen. The land con-
servancy will provide the necessary tools, or
those attending can bring their own.
