Notice is hereby given on November 8, 2022, a general election will
be held in Clatsop County, Oregon. The following shall be the ballot
title of the measure to be submitted to the City’s voters on this date.
An elector may file a petition for review of this ballot title no later than
the seventh business day after it is filed with the city elections officer.
CAPTION: LOCAL OPTION TAX LEVY FOR FIRE EQUIPMENT
AND PERSONNEL
QUESTION: Shall the City of Seaside levy $460,000 annually for
fire equipment, and fire personnel for five years beginning 2023-
2024? This measure may cause property taxes to increase more
than three percent.
SUMMARY: Funds will be used to purchase new pumper/tender to
replace current 2004 E-One pumper/tender. The pumper/tender fire
engine holds 2000 gallons of water for fires not close to fire hydrants.
In addition to the pumper/tender, the Fire Department will be replac-
ing its 4-story training tower with tower they can burn in, repel off, do
elevator rescues, and training with the ladder truck. The current 4-
story training tower was built in the early 1990’s and has major dete-
rioration and does not allow training that is needed. This levy is a
continuation of the funding for the Training Officer through Fiscal Year
2027/2028. If this measure is approved, the total amount of money
raised over the five-year period will be $2,300,000.00, levied in equal
amounts of $460,000.00 in each of the five years. This levy replaces
the current fire levy which expires end of fiscal year 2022/2023. It is
estimated this measure will result in a rate of $0.33 cents per thou-
sand of assessed value the first year. The estimated tax cost is an
ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best information available from the
County Assessor at the time of the estimate.
