ria Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution
will hold a fl ag retirement at
the museum in the historic area
at Fort Stevens State Park at
1 p.m. on Tuesday, Flag Day.
The event is open to the public.
The Pacifi c Unitarian Universal-
ist Fellowship now meets in person
at noon Sunday at the First Presby-
terian Church, 1103 Grand Ave. The
sanctuary entrance is on 11th Street

Students raise funds
for nonprofi ts
Student grant makers from
Astoria and Warrenton high
schools presented their checks
to the nonprofi ts of their choice
at an event held in May at the
Astoria Golf & Country Club
as part of the CommuniCare
program, supported by the
Harold and Arlene Schnitzer
CARE Foundation.
Each group was guaranteed
$7,500 for grant-making. Stu-
dents could double those funds
by raising an additional $750,
which the foundation matched
10 to 1. Students also had the
option to reserve up to 25% of
their CARE Foundation funds
for in-school grants.
Warrenton High School
raised $19,990. The Asto-
ria Warming Center received
$3,869; Helping Hands Reen-
try Outreach Centers, $7,093;
the Assistance League of the
Columbia Pacifi c, $5,159; and
the Sunset Park & Recreation
Foundation, $3,869.
Warrenton in-school grants
totaled $2,716.50. The Home-
work Club received $129; The
Warrior Closet, $322; Warrior
to Warrior Pantry, $657.50;
athletics and classroom projec-
tor TV, $322; wrestling camp
scholarships, $774; and the
welding program, $512.
Astoria High School non-
profi t grants totaled $12,000.
Bikers Against Child Abuse
was given $3,500; Helping
Hands Reentry Outreach Cen-
ters, $6,300; and The Healing
Circle Inc., $2,200.
Astoria in-school grants
amounted to $3,817.64. Dis-
tributive Education Clubs of
America received $3,600; and
Astoria’s CommuniCare chap-
ter was given $217.64.

State Parks
off ers free days
ILWACO, Wash. — Three
free days are being off ered by
the Washington State Parks
and Recreation Commission in
June.
The fi rst is Saturday, in
celebration of National Get
Outdoors Day, the second
is Sunday, in recognition of
Free Fishing Day, and the
third is June 19, in honor of
Juneteenth.
This means visitors to state
parks will not need a Dis-
cover Pass for a day-use visit
on those days. The Discover
Pass is required to access lands
managed by the Washington
Department of Fish and Wild-
life and the Department of Nat-
ural Resources. For informa-

Scandinavian festival
seeks fl owers
The Astoria Scandinavian
Midsummer Festival is seeking
fl owers for the upcoming fes-
tival, which takes place June
17, 18 and 19 at the Clatsop
County Fairgrounds.
Flowers can be dropped off
at the fairgrounds on Thurs-
day morning or call 503-325-
1288 by Wednesday to arrange
for the court to pick them up on
Thursday morning.
Anyone wishing to join in
the preparation for the festi-
val is welcome. The decoration
schedule is as follows: Swag
making and wrapping of the
midsummer pole is at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday. Those wishing to help
should bring gloves and clip-
pers, if possible.
