Local curator, historian to give talk on carriages
ILWACO, Wash. – Jerry Bow-
man, curator of the Northwest Carriage
Museum in Raymond, will give a talk
on historic carriages at the Columbia
Pacifi c Heritage Museum at 1 p.m. on
Saturday.
Titled “Hook Up the Horse and
Buggy Pa… We’re going to Town,” the
talk will feature a blend of carriage nos-
talgia alongside restoration and conser-
vation topics.

‘Icons of Astoria’ project
announces winning photographs
ASTORIA – Local artists Blaine
Verley and Michael Steszyn have
been announced as the winners of
“Icons of Astoria,” a collaborative
project organized by Astoria Visual
Arts and Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa.
Verley and Steszyn’s photo-
graphs, featuring scenes of Asto-
ria, will be included in the hotel’s
art collection and displayed in the
lobby.
Winning photographers each
received an award of $500 and
were chosen to represent the rich
and varied history of the Colum-
bia-Pacifi c region. For more infor-

North Coast Chamber Orchestra presents two shows, closing season
ASTORIA – The North Coast
Chamber Orchestra will perform a
series of two concerts titled “Euro-
pean Enchantment,” closing out the
group’s season, on Friday and Sunday.
The fi rst of these two perfor-
mances will take place at St. Cath-
erine Episcopal Church in Nehalem
at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by
an outdoor performance at Camp
Kiwanilong in Warrenton at 3 p.m.
on Sunday.
Under the direction of conductor
Cory Pederson, the group consists
of soloists, a string ensemble and
