‘Nature Matters’ talk focuses
on invasive crab species
ASTORIA — Coastal specialist Alex
Stote and Willapa-Grays Harbor Oys-
ter Growers Association executive direc-
tor David Beugli will give a talk on the
highly invasive European green crab at Fort
George Brewery’s Lovell Showroom on
Thursday at 7 p.m.
Considered one of the most widespread
invasive species in estuarine waters, the
European green crab has grown in popula-
tion along the Oregon and Washington state
coasts in recent years, threatening other
native species.
This event is part of “Nature Matters,” a
program featuring monthly conversations
hosted by Lewis and Clark National His-
torical Park in partnership with the North
Coast Watershed Association, Lewis and
Clark National Park Association and Fort
George Brewery.
This event is free and open to the public.

‘Tribute mania’ comes to
Liberty Theatre
ASTORIA — A series of cover artists
will take the stage for “Tribute Mania,”
paying homage to the catalogs of 1980s
favorites at the Liberty Theatre on Saturday
at 7:30 p.m.
First, local musicians Roger Jaime,
James “Bucky” Pottschmidt, Mat “Hurri-
kane” Banke, Michael Simpson and John
Elkins, forming the tribute band Back Into
Black, will perform AC/DC’s “Back In
Black” album in full. Next, Jett-A-Tar, fea-
turing vocalist Marcie Attig Long, will per-
form hits from Pat Benatar and wrap up the
evening with a tribute to Joan Jett.

offers bird monitor training
The invasive European green crab will be the

ing session for those interested in help-
ing to monitor the North Coast’s black
oystercatchers on Thursday from 6:30 to
8 p.m.
The session, a partnership with the
Friends of Cape Falcon, Haystack Rock
Awareness Program and other local and
state organizations, aims to educate com-
munity members about the challenges
faced by black oystercatchers and pre-
pare them to participate in a community
nest monitoring program.

Cascadia Chamber Opera
set to perform in Astoria
ASTORIA — The Cascadia Cham-
ber Opera will host Pint Sized Opera, a
singing event highlighting favorite opera
pieces at Merry Time Bar and Grill on
Sunday at 1 p.m.
The opera, which aims to make the
genre accessible for all, will feature
familiar community members Deac Guidi,
Bereniece Jones-Centeno and Chris-
Lynn Taylor joined by newcomer Este-
ban Zuniga, singing opera and Broadway
favorites.

Show to be held in Seaside
The black oystercatcher is a striking and
vulnerable North Coast resident.
SEASIDE — The Gem, Bead and
Mineral Show will take place at the Sea-
side Civic and Convention Center begin-
ning on Monday.
The event, organized by Shiva
Endeavors, will feature unique miner-
als, beads, fossils and meteorites found
across the globe, on display through May
15.

RAYMOND, Wash. — Music and
comedy duo Bridge and Wolak will per-
form as part of the Raymond Theatre’s
Sunday Afternoon Live series on Sunday
at 3 p.m.
The duo, consisting of Michael Bridge
on accordion and piano and Kornel Wolak
on clarinet and piano, fuse acoustic instru-
mentation with contemporary electronic
sounds. The pair also infuse comedy in
each of their performances.
