North Coast Inclusion seminar to
focus on equity in schools, community
WARRENTON – The Alliance for Equity in Educa-
tion and the Regional Educator Network will host the
North Coast Inclusion Seminar at Camp Kiwanilong
on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The seminar will focus on equity in local schools
and communities, featuring a variety of speakers,
including writer and artist Donovan Scribes. Work-
shop sessions focused on identity and inclusion will be
hosted by a variety of individuals and groups, includ-
ing activist Tessa James Scheller of the Lower Colum-
bia Q Center, Clatsop-Nehalem tribe member Richard
Basch, Clatsop Community College instructor Amanda
Daniela Cortez, Tillamook Bay Community College
faculty member Nora Karena, speaker and activist
Michelle M. Osborne and more.
This event is free and open to the public. Coff ee and
lunch will be provided. Some activities will take place

SOLVE Oregon hosts
volunteer beach cleanup
PORTLAND – SOLVE Oregon will host a series of
volunteer events as part of the annual Oregon Spring
Cleanup on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Sponsored by Portland General Electric, the Ore-
gon Parks and Recreation Department and others, the
events expect to attract thousands of volunteers who
will remove marine debris, litter and invasive plant
species across the state. Removing these items helps
marine life, aids in water quality and helps ecosystems
thrive.
Local events include the Gearhart Beach Cleanup,
Peter Iredale Beach Cleanup and Cannon Beach
Cleanup, each beginning at 10 a.m., as well as the Puf-
fi n Watch Cleanup at Cannon Beach, beginning at
noon.

Seaside High School presents
spring musical at Coaster Th eatre
SEASIDE – Seaside High School will present a
musical performance of “The Wizard of Oz,” opening
on Wednesday and continuing nightly through Satur-
day at 7 p.m. at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse.
Directed by Ann Susee, the musical will feature a
cast of 11 high school seniors alongside an ensemble of
elementary, middle and high school students. The pro-
duction features a few changes from the popular 1939
fi lm, including additional music pieces.
Admission for the show is $10 for adults and $6 for
students and seniors. Tickets will be sold at the door
only. Attendees must provide proof of COVID vacci-
nation and wear masks during the performance. For

Exhibit highlights historic hotels
of the Long Beach Peninsula
ILWACO, Wash. – “Grand
Hotels of the North Beach Pen-
insula,” an exhibit highlight-
ing historic regional resorts,
will be on display at the Colum-
bia Pacifi c Heritage Museum
through July 9.
The resort industry experi-
enced extensive growth through-
out the late 19th and early 20th
centuries in the Columbia-Pacifi c
region, with many hotels built to
accommodate luxury entertain-
ment and dining.
Landmark resorts included
Seaview House Hotel, Hackney
Cottage, The Driftwood Hotel,
The Shelburne Hotel, The Break-
ers Hotel and the Long Beach
Hotel. Many families traveled to
these resorts for spans up to three
months during the summer sea-
son, sometimes bringing along a
family cow or horse and buggy.
