Volunteers in Clatsop County are needed to be long-term care ombuds- men to protect the rights and dignity of, and advo- cate for, residents of nurs- ing, residential care, assisted living and con- tinuing care facilities and adult foster care homes. Ombudsmen respond to a variety of resident concerns, including prob- lems with resident care, medications, billing, lost property, meal quality, evictions, guardianships and care plans. To attend the free train- ing, prospective volunteers must submit an applica- tion, be interviewed, have their references checked and complete a criminal records check. Online training via Zoom is being off ered in April. There is a meet and greet at 1 p.m. April 7; training is from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. April 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28. Harvey Award nominations open In observance of National Historic Preser- vation Month, nomina- tions are being accepted for the 35th annual Dr. Edward Harvey His- toric Preservation Awards now through April 1. The awards recognize signif- icant historic preserva- tion projects that contrib- ute to the preservation and architectural heritage in Astoria. Citizens are encour- aged to nominate a proj- ect or property owner who has made outstand- ing eff orts to preserve his- toric buildings; the work must have been completed within the last two years. The Historic Land- marks Commission will review the nominations and determine winners based on the contribu- tions of the project to the architectural and historical character of Astoria.
