ASTORIA — Formed in 1920 after a climbing trip to Saddle Mountain, the Angora Hiking Club has been hosting explorations of local favorite trails and natural areas on the North Coast for over a century, featuring a year-round calendar of hiking trips led by members and local guides. Over the years, the club has also undertaken many ambi- tious restoration projects, including maintenance of the Tillamook Head Trail and road to Saddle Mountain, as well as community donations like the bronze topographic map on display at the Astoria Column. Upcoming club hikes include a voyage to Puget Island, led by club vice pres- ident Dory Lukas on April 6; a shoreline exploration from Arcadia Beach to Arch Cape, led by John Markham on April 23; a spring wild foods hike, led by Pamela Mattson-Mc- Donald on May 14 and a walk along the Fort to Sea Trail, led by Arline LaMear, on May 28. For all trips, unless other- wise noted, hikers will meet on Marine Drive between 2nd and 3rd streets in Astoria. Member- ship dues for the club are $10 per calendar year, however membership is not required to attend hikes. Some hikes have limited space.
