Lower Nehalem Watershed Council Forestry and silviculture expert Andrew Bluhm will give a presentation on the importance of red alder trees in the Oregon Coast Range ecosystem. Watershed council speaker highlights role of red alder trees NEHALEM – The Lower Nehalem Water- shed Council off ers insight from Andrew Bluhm, associate program director of the Hard- wood Silviculture Cooperative at Oregon State University, on Thursday at 7 p.m. Bluhm, an expert on the red alder, a common tree in the Nehalem w atershed, will give a pre- sentation highlighting the characteristics of the tree and summarize its role in the Oregon C oast R ange ecosystem. MANZANITA – Artist Dorota Haber-Lehigh will lead “Celestial Treasures, a Botanical Draw- ing Workshop” at Hoff man Center for the Arts on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop is open to all levels of art experience, and will focus on drawings as well as materials from nature, such as feathers, but- terfl ies, and moths. The session will feature pre- sentations, demonstrations and drawing along- side the instructor. Participants may work from paper or a sketchbook, and are asked to supply materials including foraged gatherings, rulers, embossing tools, tracing paper and pencils. Haber-Lehigh is an artist, educator and nat- uralist with a passion for northwest plant life. Haber-Lehigh loves foraging berries, mushroom hunting, fi eld sketching and collecting speci- mens. She is a member of Oregon Botanical Art- ists, Pacifi c Northwest Botanical Artists, and the American Society of Botanical Artists. She is also the author of two botanical coloring books. Tuition for the workshop is $45 and a Z oom link will be sent to participants. The session will also be recorded and made available to regis- tered students for a limited time.
