Astoria FFA competed at the Northwest District Convention on Saturday in Banks. Ali Clark,

Brandon Helligso, right, received second place in the Job Interview Career Development Event,
and will be moving to sectionals in Independence on Feb. 25, where he will compete against
three other districts that represent the Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast. The top three from
the sectionals event will advance to the state competition.

host a webinar from 7 to
8:30 p.m. on Monday by
Bob Van Dyk, Oregon and
California policy director
of the Wild Salmon Center,
whose talk, “The Oregon
Private Forest Accords —
Forest Policy And Salmon
Streams,” will cover a
conservation agreement
reached by timber repre-
sentatives and conserva-
tion and fi shing groups.
He will discuss the
negotiation process, the
features of the agreement,
and how it is likely to
impact rules and forestry
practices under the Ore-
gon Forest Practices Act.
Participants will have the
opportunity to ask ques-
tions. The webinar is open

Master Gardener Association off ers scholarship
The Astorian
The Clatsop County Mas-
ter Gardener Association is
now seeking applicants for
its annual scholarship pro-
gram for graduating seniors
who are residents of Clatsop
County, are attending public
or private high schools or are
home-schooled, and who plan
to further their education at a
college, university, vocational
school or training program.
This year’s scholarship
fund totals $2,000, which
can be granted in its entirety
to one student, or distrib-
uted among several students
should there be more than one
applicant selected. Awards
are made based on a student’s
academic standing and inter-
est in horticulture or a related
fi eld.
Applicants must submit
a completed application and
essay, along with high school
transcripts and two letters of
recommendation, and may
undergo an interview with
members of the CCMGA
Scholarship Committee.
Applications must be
postmarked by April 29, and
can be obtained by contact-
ing high school counselors’
offi ces, downloaded at bit.
