    Hoff man Center holds
monthly writing program
MANZANITA — The Hoff man Cen-
ter for the Arts’ Community Writes monthly
writing program is seeking submissions
from North Coast writers.
Entries may be poetry, fi ction, non-fi c-
tion or memoir. There is a $5 fee per
submission.
Submissions will be published on a roll-
ing basis to the Hoff man Center’s website,
hoff manarts.org.
Submissions should not exceed 800
words, and should include an image, if
possible.
The writing must be inspired by the
prompt designated for each month. The title
does not need to include the prompt topic.
The prompts are: January – rain; Febru-
ary – presidents; March – wind; April – the
cruelest month; May – lust; June – burst-
ing out; July – I love a parade; August –
wilting; September – renewal; October –
spooked; November – thankful; December
– celebrations.

Fort George holds
Sunday concerts
ASTORIA — Fort George Brewery is
holdings concerts from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sun-
days this month.
All ages are welcome. There is no cover.
On Sunday, Three For Silver will play.
The Portland-based band features one-of-a-
kind instruments and plays Americana-type
music.
On Jan. 23, Portland-based band Golden
Promise will perform. The band plays orig-
inal country.
Fort George is located at 1483 Duane St.
in Astoria.

Land stewards course off ered
Oregon State University’s Forestry and
Natural Resources Extension is off ering an
online land stewards course Jan. 25 to April 5.
Tuition for the course is $150 and is open
until Jan. 21.
The expert-led course is intended for peo-
ple interested in learning how to improve
their land.
Topics covered include creating a manage-
ment plan; forest and woodland management;
wildfi re preparedness; wildlife habitat; stream
ecosystems; healthy soils; pasture manage-
ment; rural water-system management; rural
economics and enterprise; and how to fi nd
resources and get help.
